The odds are stacked very unfavourably against men.

Being a stay at home Mom and creating a situation of financial dependence is a HUGE risk to take when there's a 50% chance it will back fire and destroy your life. I didn't say ALL stay home moms are terrible. But it is an unfair risk for any man to take in this day and age.

It still takes two to tango. Those are all things that are discussed before you get married. Be thankful you can get divorced and have to pay alimony so you don't have to be stuck in a shitty loveless marriage. They are living with her mother in law or something in Mexico going to school there iirc which is a better alternative nowadays than with a single working mom who won't have enough free time to take care of them because of the whole job thing, which would result in them joining a local Florida gang called "Los Grande Hombres" and have block wars with other latinos over control of the best street corners that hold spanish laundromats and restaurants for their gang activities.

Second part is a joke, but in all honesty she either sends her kids off to grow up somewhere comfortably but away from her, or they live with her and she collects public assistance and has to juggle child rearing + a job by herself. Not trying to white knight but she'd catch flak for either situation. 1 at least benefits the children more.

But have you ever been in an abusive relationship? Ever had a man hold you down on the ground choking your neck? Ever had a man force you to have sex with him, or to blow him? Ever have a man threaten you physical harm just for talking to another man? Even the goddamn cashier at the Wal-Mart?

Yeah, damn right I left that relationship, and I never looked back. I was taken advantage of in the worst way - that man spent all of my money knowing I would be incapable of leaving him. My father did me a HUGE favor in coming to get me, and I'm paying him back because I don't want a handout, not from anyone.

I made a poor choice in marrying him and I regret it, yes. My children are well cared for by family (not going to elaborate on that right now, but both my ex and I are paying their way presently).



Was I to stay in that abusive relationship for the rest of my life? Was I? You want to talk about a shitty situation, I worked my ass off to rise above the abuse I found myself in and I came out triumphant at that. I am working and living on my own, my children are well cared for, and my ex-husband can do whatever he wants, as long as he keeps supporting the children. He doesn't give me a dime, I don't give him a dime, everyone is happy.

Are you happy now? Or should I have stayed and taken constant beat-downs and gotten pregnant on his whims because I had no say in what happened to my body? Which would you think is the better choice? Leaving? Or staying?

This whole story is near identical to a friend of mine.

My wife had clinical depression since she was 16. When we met she was on meds for it. Our life together was good, we finished school, started our careers and then got married and bought a beautiful house. Early into our relationship she wanted to come off the meds and she did with medical supervision. She consulted a psychiatrist a couple of times during the marriage because she was concerned her depression could "come back" especially after having our son.

She was right.

I spent 9 months trying to get her help. She was severely depressed and anorexic, dropping to below 100 lbs. She lied to everyone about it, including me and especially her family, until I found her working through an anorexia treatment program on her own without medical supervision. She ordered me to keep her secret. It lasted a little while before she finally had a melt down one day. She stole every penny in all of our accounts, investments. She took the car, tried to take the house, called children's aid and made horrible accusations to try and cut me out of her life.

The causes of her depression returning?

-One son is autistic (although he wasn't diagnosed until we were separated, he was very difficult)
-We had been trying very unsuccesfully to have kids for 2+ years with a fertility clinic and she was receiving hormone shots.
-My "fix" for 2 years of unsatisfying/robosex was to try new things in the bedroom, which she refused. (she was very conservative, no oral, no anal, no toys, missionary only)
-She was eventually declared infertile and unable to have more kids.
-She's fucking clinicially depressed. This shit happens when your brain is fucked.

I'll take the blame for trying to solve our intimacy issues by looking into kink rather than seeing a therapist. The rest ain't me.
