On another note, I have a question:
Has there been any testing on the occasional 2.5 damage from relics as far as what the rate is?
I"m trying to figure how to include this estimate when comparing weapons in DPS spreadsheets.

I believe 2.5 rate is 16%. Putting 20% into the ODD slot of the spreadsheet provides a close approximation of that rate considering it's only 2x dmg and not 2.5x. The 20% also is fairly accurate for 2x relic procs, and 3x relic procs.

Apart from Usukane +1 feet, is any other piece worth making for just SAM? Eyeballing I think so, but I am completely out of the loop in terms of the present optimal SAM builds and no real guides to look at. (That I am aware of)

The mask +1 should be an upgrade assuming you keep 5hit, which isn't very difficult.

Yeah but Automaton, unlike the pet, won't attack mobs on his own will. And to engage the automaton on a certain target, that's actually an action that you (the master) performs on the target. Wouldn't that count towards applying TH?
I seem to remember from old days in my dynaLS when we had a THF/mage job that you don't necessarily need to produce damage, but just to get on the hate list of the mob. If you perform an action that puts you into a certain target's hate list, then that target should receive the TH effect, no?

Now that I think about I wonder how this works with BST and Snarl.
If I snarl my hate on a non-engaged pet, would that count for the application of pet TH on the target?

Commanding your pet to attack works weird so I wouldn't count on it. Like you are on the list but have no emnity while that thf at least got some emnity so who knows until it's tested. Also bsts have to use a command as well.

As far as snarl again I wouldn't count on it without testing.

Then again with the downgrade to th1 testing will be slightly more difficult then it used to be

snarl won't work at all if you are not on the pets hate list.

for example, if a mob aggro's you, you cannot snarl it until you have taken some action on it.

Automaton threat is different to SMN and BST threat. If I recall correctly, it's possible to solo the treasure chests assault mission simply by commanding your pet to do something to the treasure mob and then releasing it, therefore resetting aggro and causing the mimic to despawn.

That won't work on SMN or BST.

EDIT: The exact technique was:

let mimic take a swing at you (absorbed by utesumi and stonerskin)
deploy automaton, which casts instant flashbulb
release automaton almost immediately
as long as you are somewhat slightly away from the treasure chest the mimic will depop and you can walk past it
