How do i change my active relic quest? I picked up a stage 2 that i had started, but when i talk to him he now talks about what he needs for stage 3 (stage 2+3 weapons) and wont accept a different relic weapon. Do I now have to complete all the stages before I can make something different?

Did you by chance trade him the synthable materials before the currency of a stage?

For example:

H2H
Relic Knuckles

Koh-I-Noor
Griffon Leather
Adaman Sheet

If you traded him the materials above, but not the currency you can't do anything else until you trade him the currency.

I asked this on AH but I didn't get a satisfactory answer. I'm basically career BRD with R/M/E. I'm about to finish Ryunohige and I'm looking at Moonshade. However, until someone in LS makes a harp I can't see myself bringing anything else to raids, ever.

Currently I have macc/refresh for my mage jobs, but I'm weighing that against atk/tp bonus. Is the tp bonus moonshade so awesome that it'll be worth getting even if I'm on DRG less than 10% of the time?

It's certainly good, assuming you're using drakes at 100's aside from activating AM3(it does nothing for that drakes), it'll add ~3.75% critrate. If you're using 300tp Drakes > Stardivers, it's even better, adding 0.02ftp (for all hits). Stardiver vs Drakes isn't especially relevant for earring discussion, just that at any point less that 275tp it's best for either WS by a decent margin.

I'm no expert on DRG gear, but as a generic comparison,

Drakes:
(D151+24fSTR+(200str*0.6*0.85))*ftp*pdif
Between a 4str and moonshade -
4STR earring increases D term by ~0.7% (4*0.6*0.85)/(D151+24fSTR+(200str*0.6*0.85))
Moonshade adds 3.75% critrate - assuming capped pdif/ddex/critmerits, moves critrate from (10[drakes100tp]+25[ddex+merits]=35) to 38.75.
-Avg noncrit capped pDIF ~2.25, crit ~3.05
-2.25*0.65+3.05*0.35 = ~2.53 w/out moonshade
-2.25*0.6125+3.05*0.3875 = ~2.56 w/ moonshade
~1.1% increase

Also consider taking this to Motenten's spreadsheets, as they're likely more accurate than napkin math, given these are relatively close results.

Stardiver:
(D151+24fSTR+(200str*0.85))*ftp*pdif
4STR is ~0.99% increase
0.02ftp per hit, assuming you're using gorget/belt, is 0.02/0.95 = 2.1% increase, fairly clearly ahead.

4str is 3-4 attack vs 4 attack on moonshade, ignoring that in either case.

Do you mainly use other mages? Between say, nares/heka/wivrepin|hekahead and the ability to pian-selfballads, I don't see refresh being a terribly huge deal for BRD specifically - hell, if it doesn't wreck the R/E song rotations, tenuto a ballad on yourself while swapping between parties.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I dabble in SCH occasionally but once I capped out on Nyzul gear and leveled SCH on mule I don't use it much. I know I can get by without it on BRD but I liked being able to stack refresh in my idle set. Oh well, it is only 1 mp/tic after all.

you have to edit the reg key for POL/FFXI

regedit > HKEY_Local_Machine > Software > (this part differs slightly depending on if you have 64 bit or not) > Wow6432Node > PlayOnlineUS > InstallFolder

Edit the 3 keys there to the new path, and that should fix it. If it complains about dlls, you may need to reregister all the dlls in playonline folder.

I did this, it's still giving me an issue when I actually try to launch the game.

I have 3 values in my install folder, default (no path set), 0002 (tetramaster) and 1000 (playonline)

BST question:

Outside of Mythic / Relic / Emp - what is the best BST Mainhand/Offhand combo?

Currently working on STR Axe / Ganelon DA

Is this the best option? Is it worth taking the Ganelon to 99?

Hard to say which is best I'm gunna do double DA. That said getting ganelon to 99 isn't that hard and iirc is the highest base dmg weapon for bst outside of m/r/e

Whenever I've looked at it using a spreadsheet, DA/STR has always come out on top (outside of M/R).

It's certainly better when you're capped on atk, and that's going to be fairly likely at least with ruinator in dynamis(atk boost on ws). I'd think you're capping attack on EP for sure, and not far off on DCs.
