Your friend may have suspected incoming HDD death due to your describing a "click," as dying actuator arms can make clicking noises. However, your stating that a single click comes before a reboot implies that there's something else shutting down in your system, and I would not necessarily consider the sound itself to be alarming (though it's always good to pay attention to those things).
I'll assume that you've already run a File Check, but that you haven't tried removing files and forcing their replacement. To me, it sounds as if the DAT files related to those zones have gone corrupt. This, too, could be connected to a dying HDD issue (if that does exist), or general file corruption. Have you ever replaced DATs before? If you haven't, you may find the software that will help you in your quest here (specifically AltanaViewer):

And since you said that it involves original areas:

I would find the DATs related to the zones wherein you're experiencing these problems, rename them (e.g., "50 OLD.DATOLD," or according to your preferred naming scheme), and then run the File Check in PlayOnline. Ideally, it will notice that these files are missing, and replace them; hopefully, this will fix your problem, too.
