Is there anyone here who would honestly argue that obesity is not currently one of the largest, if not the largest, threats to public health? That either directly or indirectly accounts for over 20% of the healthcare spending in the U.S.? It's a giant fucking problem, and fatty-apologists would rather demonize the people pointing this out than do something about it.

This is fucking stupid. The anchor lady addressed it clear as day. Do you think she doesn't know that? Do you think smokers don't know that?

If you're trying to play the "role model" card - which is stupid to begin with - there are tons of obese people in similarly "important" positions all over the country. Former sports players as analysts, other news anchors and team members, tons of comedians, and so on.

This is a totally irrelevant point. If you want to handle obesity in the country, you do constructive things like work towards better healthy food regulation, treatment and support development, informative talks and announcements, and so on.

Calling a lady on TV fat is not raising awareness, it's being petty.

Of course she knows. The guy obviously wasn't concerned about her health, but of those who watch her.

I honestly don't see why this turned into such a big deal. People on TV get criticized about everything all the time, it's part of the job I would think.

Exactly what new light does this bring on the problem of obesity?

I'm saying that calling her fat clearly raises awareness of this country's obesity problem. As evidenced by the fact that we are talking about it. No groundbreaking discovery needs to be made. Just discussing it is beneficial.

All kinds of dumb up in here today. Yes she's fat. But his comments are implying because of that there's no possible way she could be a positive role model. Pointing out someone's weight is one thing. Saying they have no other redeeming qualities aside from their physical appearance is another. It's like me calling you a fucking retard and because you're stupid there's no possible way you could be a role model to anyone. Get your shit straight dood.

Btw, is this the most milquetoast criticism ever responded to on air with a serious answer?

There isn't an awareness problem to begin with. It's not like people don't know how unhealthy it is and how big of a problem it is. There are threads and discussions in the Politics forum here and elsewhere every single day about corrupt politics, fucked up governments, national concerns, bigotry, etc. and talking about it and pointing fingers has not and will not change a thing.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be talking about it. I'm saying that the fact that obesity is a problem does not mean that this man's words were justified. He didn't do shit to raise awareness, he was just a dick and now people are arguing about whether or not he's a dick. You'll notice that none of these discussions are generating progressive ideas about handling the problem itself, they're just focused on "hey it's a problem he's right" or "no he's an entitled douche who has somehow been praised by a few idiots like you".

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

No, but a reminder every now and again can do a lot of good.

There are threads and discussions in the Politics forum here and elsewhere every single day about corrupt politics, fucked up governments, national concerns, bigotry, etc. and talking about it and pointing fingers has not and will not change a thing.
People don't benefit from being fat. Not sure how this is comparable.

You'll notice that none of these discussions are generating progressive ideas about handling the problem itself, they're just focused on "hey it's a problem he's right" or "no he's an entitled douche who has somehow been praised by a few idiots like you".

Michelle Obama is spent the last 4 years talking obesity and exercise and healthy eating. Fast food places are changing their menus and some cities are banning shitty sugar drinks. But it seems nobody is talking about obesity?

Holy shit, I cannot believe BG is siding with the TV anchor...

I'm not going to argue with anybody because this is incredibly polarizing and the third post in already started with "shut up" so for the sake of everyone involved I'll just post my side of it and take whatever insults you've got coming, and I know they're coming because I'm going to be very forward and mean about this

Face it, she got butthurt about a perfectly polite email, he said she's obese and would make a better role model if she handled that problem - how's that wrong? He does NOT say she CANNOT be a positive role model while obese. This is a private email and the author, Kenneth W. Krause (not a scumbag), did not mean for it to be some big story "outing" her as a fatty, by the way. If she wanted to talk about bullying, body images, "anonymity" on the internet and cyber bullying, because these are real big issues in the US, then please go for it but do not use THAT - A REAL ISSUE - as YOUR platform to get some angsty emo shit off your chest because people acknowledge you are fat

It isn't hard to get fit/healthy and using this email as some "platform", as she describes it, to address bullying and body-image issues in america? Wow, does anyone siding with her even know what that kind of stuff is? I find it insulting to the people with the REAL body image issues and bullying when this lady goes on and on about how she's a victim, but can take it, and doing it for the community, etcetc. She isn't batman, she's pathetic

Edit: I searched his name on google and found youtube videos, I assume that's him. Looks like a typical old white guy.

hoepfully when she heart attacks her three young girls will be all grown up so that they dont have to grow up without a mom

although her three young girls are prob lil chunkers and are just going to be insanely depressed in high school because chad, graham, and twimbley from the lacrosse team do not think they are cute
