usaf did it
I'll wait for the Wily E. Coyote gif
There are a lot of videos showing the making of this and practice jumps, as well on the history of the ex-military jumper/current world record holder (who is the guys trainer).
Apparently the guy that holds the record was unconscious for some of the fall and his hand swelled to like basketball size due to a pressurization malfunction. There are a lot of safety features and precautions like if he does infact lose consciousness or cant open his chute, cause he has several to slow him down and keep him from flat spinning.
They should make remote controlled parachutes.
He won't be going fast enough to burn up. Sure he will reach 700+ Mph, but in order to burn up, he'd have to enter into the atmosphere at a much higher velocity.
Shuttles, capsules, meteors, and space junk start to burn because they are traveling at 17,000 MPH+ and slam into the thermosphere (400,000 miles up) which has high air density creating a lot of friction and heat as the air molecules slow it down. In the case of the Space Shuttle, they are going from 17,000 MPH down to 700 MPH before aerodynamic breaking is used to slow it down even further.
Felt smart when I thought of this guy while reading the thread.
2/3 of his test jumps malfunctioned and he still walked away from a 102k decent with a partially depressurized suit, 50 years of science and technology later and this guys only going another 18k feet.
Red bull, advertising stunt, whatever, etc.
Dood is gonna be a pancake.
Delayed another hour?
How many parachutes is he using? I would think it would take a long time to slow down.
launch delayed again until 1030 est. does that mean the earliest he will jump is 130est?
Says earliest Launch is 11:30 MDT which is 1:30 EST. Not sure how long we have to wait after the launch for him to jump though.
saw something that said it will take the balloon 3 hours to hit the target height
Yeah
Launching the balloon in 45 minutes. So it's going to be at least 1:15pm PDT before he jumps.
launching soon, I wont be able to see the dive live :/ hope it ends up on youtube
Damnit they are aborting...Got a huge gust of wind right at launch.
