They said something along the lines of they can only launch with 2 mph winds and watching it live they had large gusts of winds that tossed the balloon around right as they were about to launch.

Just one? Terminal velocity is terminal velocity, sure he's going to be going super fast while he's up high but once he comes down into denser atmospheres he'll be slowing down to standard speeds 20k ft skydivers achieve (~100-120mph)

The USAF used several chutes to help stabilize and reduce the chance for a flat spin, and this guy might too. The USAF guy blacked out during his free fall and was unconscious for some of the jump, so there are several safety precautions. I remember reading that while unconscious he broke a record for the amount of G's on a human that survived cause of the spin he went into.

heh, that's pretty neat. I figured these guys' experience would mean they could handle themselves even at high altitudes but hell if I knew what skydiving from space is like, lol

Since he wasn't in a craft of any kind the g force from the spin was exerted on his extremities, even if he didn't lose consciousness he wouldn't have been able to do anything because he wouldn't even be able to bend his arm.

The spin was (ironically) caused by the stabilizing chute, it didn't deploy correctly and caught him around the neck.

3 if he needs it. Only plans to use the main, there is a drogue stabilizing chute and a reserve also.

wonder if redbull spent a ton of money promoting this. most everything i saw was on blogs like gawker and gizmodo and stuff which seems like free press to me. hopefully they didnt sink a chunk of change into it and have to double up to promote next weeks attempt.

He's done like 10 practice jumps from 90-100k feet over the last few months... We won't be waiting very long.
