Summary: Yuuta Togashi suffered from chuunibyou while he was in middle school. When he graduated, he put that dark history behind him and forgot about it... or he was supposed to. High school was smooth sailing and full of enjoyment - until the unavoidable, sad event occurs. The event that locks Yuuta into a contract with Rikka Takanashi and disrupts his desperately ordinary life.

I felt so bad for not watching that show all the way through because I have loved everything else KyoAni has done.

Enjoying Chuunibyou so far, I think I posted this sentiment already but I really feel that chuunibyou is something I had when I was that age. Maybe not quite to the extent that we acted a bunch of stuff out, but me and my friends made up all this lore about ourselves and shit and really bought into it to make us feel like we were special somehow. I think a lot of people were like this at that age XD So I'm really enjoying this show for the nostalgia factor it brings me when I think about the implications of chuunibyou.

Also, the big sister is hot.

This episode was so amazingly awkward, never before has the straight man been so important. Still hilarious though, and the crazy animation keeps up.

I actually find those awkward conversations to be the highlights. Yuuta pulling a gun on the girl was hilarious.

By the way, should check out the Lite episodes too. They're pretty funny.

This show is fucking hilarious. It's rare that anime makes me actually laugh out loud but I did at ep 3 a bunch of times.
It's still got the nostalgia factor for me too. Ah, kids making up stories about their own mystical powers and connections to each other in past lives/worlds...

So 5 episodes in and I still love this show. I hope it doesn't get too deep with Rikka's apparent issues, because this shit is funny and needs to stay that way.

Watching this makes me miss and want Haganai back.

I prefer this show to Haganai mostly because Haganai sometimes goes overboard with the stereotypes/ecchi situations. They are funny most of the time but sometimes it's just cringeworthy.

Chuunibyou really strikes a good balance between awkward and normal. Normal is, after all, necessary to contrast awkward... whereas Haganai is mostly just awkward all the time, haha.

Is the boys ranking girls in the class really that big a deal? I never actually did it but it seems like something everyone would have found getting bothered by to be stupid even in middle/high school. The biggest problem my school would have had was indignation/disappointment at not being ranked high enough. I guess it's probably just standard Japanese repression.
Haganai cant fit normal into the narrative since none of them understand what it is. Sure you could add a straight man to the group but then we wouldn't get to see the chaos from their lack of understanding.

Not to mention three quarters of the stuff that's insinuated to be normal high school business is total nonsense, even over there.

You've got high schools over here with orgies in the girls' bathrooms. Doubt a ranking list would be a big deal.

No, I think things like that can be a much bigger deal in Japan than they would be in the West. Japan is more of a community society where others' perception of you means everything, so to do something like ranking girls in your class is frowned upon as it just makes you look bad, which, again, can be a big deal in Japan. It's not like, a life-shattering event but I think it was handled in the show about how it would be handled, with the class reps getting the person who did it to fess up.

There's at least one Japanese song I can think of called 'love ranking' which details the guys in the class secretly getting together and ranking the girls in the class by how hot they are, so I think it maybe a trendy or cliched thing to do nowadays.

Tyrant's eye annoyed me this episode mostly in an "oh god they're gonna do some drama to make the girl DEEP that could be solved by not being a tard or going to a psychiatrist" way. Her actions were ok when we thought she was just immature but now it's looking like a serious psychological condition that is interfering with other people's lives.
