So, I got to try out windows 8, hated the layout and feel of it, but I did love the sounds (like when you adjust the volume, makes a pleasant little sound), lol is there a sound pack or something so I can switch out the shitty sounds of windows 7 for these nicer sounds?

    *\Windows 8 Themes\Windows 8 RTM\Windows 8 Main Theme\Windows 8 RTM\Media has the sounds in .wav format.

I probably won't touch windows 8, probably wait for a 9. THen again, They may jsut keep.. building upon win8 and its style... O_o

If I was forced to windows 8 though, I would wait 1-2 years, because it took froever for hentai games to become compatible with windows 7... going to be awhile for windows 8 also (and no comparability mode even in 7 fails)

Re: What's the general consensus here of Windows 8?

Why don't you just run them in an xp virtual machine?

And invariably, whatever operating system I was using, I needed to be on the other one for something.

I haven't messed with windows 8 yet, but if it works like previous versions of windows, each side is going to be completely closed off from the other. So for instance, on a computer with a 500 GB hard drive, you would have a win 7 install with 250 GB and a win 8 install with 250 GB. (You can customize the size of the install). Each side is called a 'partition'. You can go back and delete a partition easily, however what you now have is a unformatted 250 GB partition on your computer. You would still have to go back and reformat it, or it would never be available. And if you ever wanted all 500 GB to be available as one hard drive again, a complete re-install would be needed. Otherwise you would have two virtual hard drives on one physical drive (Some people do this for backup purposes or to keep music and movies separate from other more commonly accessed files).

Yes, a clean boot from scratch requires a complete reformat of your HDD. You can upload your your desktop and libraries to google docs or to a thumb drive ahead of time. Google Drive would be the best solution imo, because then you can upload them and let it sync while you are asleep.

I had an intel based low end gaming laptop that I turned into a Hackintosh with triple boot without any issues. Booted into Grub Bootloader where I could choose between OSX Lion or Windows. If I chose Windows, it loaded the normal Windows 8 loader to choose between Windows 8 or an earlier version of Windows. The only problem I had was when running Lion, my laptop trackpad and internal wireless card didn't work because there were no drivers created for them.

I always suggest starting from scratch and doing a clean install and partitioning the drive during the install process. You can use software like partition magic to resize partitions, but for me it's just a matter of personal preference to just back up important files to a second drive and then wipe the primary and start with that.

As far as Windows 8 goes, it is an interesting experience. It does take some getting used to switching between desktop and metro but this can be done with the Windows key. My only issue so far is that the search function inside apps like netflix are non-existent and are instead handled by the "Charms" menu (move your mouse to the right). Also for some users, the lack of a Start Menu button might be bothersome (my gf hates that it's not there), but it can be applied with 3rd party tools.

The (formerly-named) "Metro" start screen is the start menu, it's as simple as that. Right-click the start screen anywhere and click All Apps in the bottom-right corner, it'll show you all of the program groups like it used to (there's just no point in seeing links to Dropbox Website, readmes, etc.) Once you start thinking that way, it's really just an updated version of Windows 7. I am flying around now like it's second nature after two days of using it on my main system, I had only used it in VMs before this weekend. I don't mean to sound like I want to convince people who don't like it to use it, because there's really nothing wrong with Windows 7 (if you are sticking to XP or Vista though, you should really move on at this point).

Learning that the left edge of the screen lists the open 'Metro' apps helped speed things up a bit too, the modern day alt-tab, sort of. I think my biggest complaint is that in the Desktop screen for old/normal programs, I sort of miss the Aero style menus/min/max/close buttons, instead of the flat squares. But that's just to match Microsoft's new look I guess.

Hopefully the store and related apps get updated quickly, for reasons like the Netflix relying on the Charms bar, etc.

Some games don't even think they are installed, after installing them.

Some hentai games, are very... very picky on where they are installed so... ;/
Anyway, I don't see many things moving to win8 for a long time, so I won' be trying it out, like I mentioned for a good while... like 2015ish maybe, or just move to the even newer OS, unless they somehow make it even worse then win8.
