    Computer extremely slow

So having issues with my computer, not sure if it's that time to reinstall Windows or what is going on with it really. Even in safe mode it's pretty sluggish right now. All the parts are less then 1.5yrs old but I dont have any swap parts to really see if those are the issue or not.

Dragging files from one window to the desktop or copying anything like this takes far too long, loading control panel and such drags and is sluggish. Task Manager is only showing 1-3% of my CPU being used when just a few windows are open and maybe 10-20% of my RAM.

System has a quad core AMD CPU at ~3.4ghz not overclocked
8gb of DDR3 RAM not overclocked
    running Win7 Ultimate
HDD space has at least 60% free
Ive defrag'd, cleaned out registry and every other tune up I can think of, everything was working fine till around August/September.

I think it's obvious that I need MycleanPC. That shit looks as legit as coolwebsearch.

Also, anyone used the new DriverSweeper? DriverFusion. Wondering how long it usually takes to get rid of a large amount of backed up drivers, as i'm going on a good 20mins right now, I figure it's just being very rigorous...but i'm curious.

More than likely your hard drive. I would mirror your drive to an extra hard drive, if you have one, then put that in your PC. If that doesn't fix your problem, my second guess would be your power supply is dying.

I think you guys are right, running a chkdsk on the HDD right now and it's taking fucking forever. Once this is done i'm going to mirror it on my other HDD, might pick up a SSD now.

What is the lifespan of a SSD vs HDD? I know they havnt been out for long enough to really calculate precisely but is there any guess?

SSDs last a lot longer than hdds.

With average use, SSDs you can probably get 10 years or so out of it before it starts showing signs of age. HDDs you will start to notice an indefinite slowdown after about 5 years.

Also, SSDs are more resistant to shock and other variables such as physical use. For example, if you're a DJ or something, the volume of your speakers/subs could effect the life of your regular drive, or if you drive with your laptop a lot, etc. SSDs are better overall.

Projected SSD life can depend largely on the type of flash memory used. Some of the newer models are using TLC NAND, which has a significantly lower read/write life than previous types.

That said, as expanded on in Ananadtech's Samsung 840 series review, the life expectancy for the 256GB model (using their read/write estimates) is still 7 years. Down from 21 years with the MLC NAND in the 830, but, still a very reasonable expected life.

Given how high a mortality rate HDDs tend to have in the first place, SSD life is really not much of a concern.
