Hey guys, 2K would have to build a new football game from the ground up, except for that time they built a football game on this generation's hardware, and it was fucking way better than Madden without an NFL license. They totally wouldn't update rosters, stick new logos on helmet, and push that out the door for some American dollars given the chance. No way.

I was going to write a big thing about how hard it would be to overcome the brand recognition that Madden has, but then I realized it was a retarded argument because people know that NBA 2K is quality shit and that should transfer to a new NFL 2k game.

the cost of doing such a thing is more than you really think it is, and doesn't really fit in the current direction that 2k(take two) is taking their company at the moment.

And what direction might that be? More Max Payne games that don't sell? More Spec Ops games that don't sell? More Bioshock games that hemorrhage top talent months before release?

    Or just more GTA?

What about this 'direction' precludes a re-entry into the NFL licensing market?

this console generation they're vesting in new IPs for the rest of it. if they make a football game it wouldn't be till launch of new console, as 2k sports is one of their weakest divisions, and only afloat because of basketball. they don't have any spare money to throw around as the mlb game has lost 30mil per year the last few years.

This argument assumes that NFL fans are NBA fans and would know the 2k basketball game is good - while this is probably true for some fans, I'm sure there are a ton of fans who like basketball and not the NFL (especially outside of the U.S.) and vice versa. The awareness factor wouldn't be that strong and 2k sports would be fighting an uphill battle. FIFA has PES (pro evolution/winning eleven - the konami game) as competition but it's almost seen as the redheaded stepchild of soccer games because the audience who plays it is not nearly as strong as FIFA and often times casual gamers, who account for a TON of sales revenue, don't want to learn a whole new game and would rather just play the game they know with their friends and family.
