It's just confusing to me. If Obama was running a misinformation campaign that it was a protest gone wrong vs. a terrorist attack, I just don't understand the basic question "Why?"

The "what did he have to gain" has never been even close to satisfactorily explained. It seems more likely that there was confusion, different people in the state department knew or believed different things, etc. The death of 4 Americans is tragic, but it's equally unclear whether it was preventable. Would double the amount of security have resulted in repelling the attack, or just getting more Americans killed? I don't really know.

If someone could explain why muddling the cause of this attack would be politically beneficial for Obama it would help clarify why I should be outraged.

Yeah but everyone knows fearmongering with TERRISTS gets people reelected, he'd have been much better off just claiming it at the start if he knew/believed it was.

Ansar al-Sharia claimed credit for it. An al-Qaida flag was flown after the attack.

I haven't checked in a couple of weeks but the last I saw the going theory was that it was a militia group not directly linked with AQ.


edit: Yeah the group Swamp named, I've seen them labeled as 'Al-Qaeda sympathizers' but I never saw any actual direct organizational or financial links explained
