    I may be wrong but some of those adapters are capable of pumping more juice than others (The reason I can't charge my iPad2 with the charger from my old iPhone 3G). Also, some could be plugged into outlets for pure charging while some are plugged into PCs for syncing and whatnot (I know I don't like to get prompted for plugging a device into my desktop if all I wanted to do was charge my phone).
