kinda off topic but this hit a nerve with me

Every time I read or hear someone say something like this I roll my eyes. It's become the du jour phrase especially on the internet after every teen suicide or murder. hi2u Amanda todd.

I admit that I'm confused as to what you didn't like. Do you believe that the case of Amanda Todd is a genuine example of people not paying attention to the abused?

I wouldn't immediately believe that Rhinox would think that Amanda Todd's case wasn't genuine, but I wasn't certain as to whether he found my statement annoying, or was bothered by the idea of people neglecting others.

As for the whole amanda todd thing It's pretty white girl syndrome.

That thing went viral fast and the whole twitter thing almost became insufferable. I don't pity people who kill themselves and I'd wager that 90% of those that helped it trend don't know anything other than 140 characters that came before #RIPAMANDATODD

But that didn't stop the insincere mourning of some one who no one knew.

I admittedly don't know about the Twitter following, but I don't use Twitter beyond following a handful of people I find funny. The way you described it—"pretty white girl syndrome"—isn't something I would disagree with, however.

After all, I understand not only how unfairly things are skewed in the favor of those with white skin, but furthermore, how generations of people of color have suffered a "whitewashing" of their own pride, so to speak—the studies involving asking little girls whether they prefer dolls with the same skin tone as they or white ones being a good example of that. (For those unfamiliar, the girls, all of whom were black if I recall correctly, overwhelmingly chose the white dolls.)

That aside, I did read an article regarding the Amanda Todd case that I found engaging. I believe it was on the New Yorker, but I'm not entirely sure. I really don't care about the Internet's false sympathies; in fact, I despise insincerity in general. I wouldn't say that I pity her personally, as I did not know her, but I do pity a society that lets such things happen.

Human nature really. It's a tragedy, sure. Not gonna loose sleep over it. You think it might be a case of people overly empathizing with the deceased? People tend to get like this when their lives can be comparable to a tragedy, even if it is misguided or clouded by self-pity.

This type of behavior has always been around. People have always hindsighted a solution and a way but were too "Not my problem because it doesn't have anything to do with me" to do anything about the issue.
