Nippon Ichi Software have announced a new Disgaea game for release next year at stage event in Japan today: Disgaea Dimension 2, slated for release on the PlayStation 3 on March 20th, 2013.

This is actually “Project D,” NIS’ mystery 20th anniversary title that they teased earlier in the year. Further details will be announced at a later point, and the game’s teaser website will go live in 12 days.

Glad to see they got Laharl in pants now. But with the D1 team making cameos in every single Disgaea game, I can't be the only one that's tired of the trio by now... right?

They don't really change much between games, so seeing them there isn't really a welcome surprise because you know exactly what you're going to get.

At first it was fine, but now it's just overblown. More Flonne is never good either.

Shogo Kozakai will serve as the game’s producer. Its story is centered around characters Laharl, Etna, and Flonne. Because it’s the series’ 10th anniversary, they wanted to bring back Laharl, explained Kozakai, as he is its origin. Disgaea D2 is a sequel to Laharl’s story. The “D” in the the title stands for “Dimension.” But it can also mean “Destiny” or “Dramatic,” according to the producer. Minori Chihara will sing the game’s opening music.

The official packaging, limited edition, and pre-order bonuses were also announced. The limited edition will include figures of Etna and Flonne, a hard cover art book, and the original soundtrack. It will cost 11,340 yen. Pre-order Disgaea D2 and you’ll receive a redeem code for “Legacy Ver.” costumes of Laharl, Etna, and Flonne.

So was there a Dimension 1, or are they just assuming that we should know it refers to the first Disgaea?

Either way, I'm game for more Laharl.

Assume Dimension 2 means like actual an sequel to Laharl and the gang. As Disgaea 2+ were different protags w/ cameos from Laharl etc.

Disgaea always has good music, even if it's similar between games. Well, at least I know to pick up OSTs for this anyway.

I never get tired of them, they were the only characters I really liked.

Etna on the other hand....thats that shit right there. Give her some prinnies and things are gonna get real.

Dengeki PlayStation this week contains an interview with Nippon Ichi Software’s Shogo Kozakai, producer of the recently announced Disgaea D2 for PlayStation 3.

Disgaea D2 is a continuation of the first Disgaea, set several years after the good ending. It stars Laharl, the main character of the first game, as well as Etna and Flonne. Old characters will return and new characters will be introduced. The game will have the familiar slapstick, yet serious ambiance Disgaea titles are known to offer. A remake of the first game was considered, but the team wanted to deliver a new story.

The game system will focus on the good points from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. But since many fans believed Disgaea 4‘s system had too much volume, it’s being balanced to be closer to the original Disgaea. Disgaea‘s system is popular, said Kozakai, but there is an impression of weak spots in the story, which the team aims to repair. In terms of new elements, there are still various features that have yet to be revealed. It appears you might even be able to use monsters as mounts.

Kozakai wants to continue the Dimension series, so this might not be the first and last game you’ll see. He also said the fifth numbered game, the already confirmed Disgaea 5, is currently being prepared.

Disgaea D2 will launch for PlayStation 3 in Japan on March 20, 2013.

Nippon Ichi Software has released the first screenshots of and detailed the pre-story to its upcoming PlayStation 3 strategy RPG Disgaea D2.

PRE STORY

After the death of the overlord who boasted great powerful and charisma. In the Netherworld, an era of civil war has broken out over who will rule. The repeat battles end, an infamous warrior is driven away, and a young demon takes prominence.

The name of that demon is Laharl, the only son of the late demon king. Laharl is a wild and carefree demon who fights alongside eccentric angels and even humans. At long last, Laharl becomes the overlord.

Some years later, the arrogant demon king Laharl and his friends begin a new adventure. Wherever they precede, trouble and drama follow. Surprise and excitement, laughter and tears, the curtain rises on a fantastic spectacle!

The developer will launch the game’s official website at 9:00 EST tonight.

In the next Disgaea D2 report, expect the reveal of a new character, teased in this week’s update as a silhouette.

MY DICK IS ROCKHARD FOR THAT GAME. Seriously, I loved Disgaea 1. Laharl is my favorite character in all those games and I'm excited to see how this one goes.
