'He was apart of it' is a completely different argument from he was solely responsible for it. Argument could be made for many people being apart of it in some way though; it isn't singularly all on Ben (not even mostly), which seemed to be your original argument.

So 'apart' generally means 'separate from', while I assumed he meant "a part." Is he being ambiguous or just making a typo?
