I just don't want to wake up at any point this week without power and/or 3 feet of snow on the ground. I'll be fucking furious.

I believe we ARE owed a story.
It's getting windy here in NYC. The pigeons are giving zero fucks, as per usual.
I'm out in Oklahoma, but the folks back home in MD got a "stay the fuck off the highway tomorrow!" suggestion from the Mayor, so yeah.
It's already shut down. The trains anyway. Buses stop at 9pm. No word on when they'll reopen them but I'd put my money on late Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

edit: Beaten
If you're in NYC last I heard on the news "New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says New York City subway, bus and train service will be suspended starting at 7pm ET ahead of Hurricane Sandy." At least here in NJ they said a full public transit shutdown takes 12 hours, so it makes sense to start tonight.
They started prepping 2-3 days ago I think.
EDIT:
"The MTA began preparing to suspend service several days ago by readying recovery equipment, clearing drainage areas, moving vehicles from low-lying areas at bus depots and rail yards and sealing some tunnel access points."
Yea they'll be shutdown but they can start them back up at a later time. My training starts at 7am and I have to leave the house by 6am so the most likely scenario is they won't be up that early. They've shut down schools already for tomorrow so there might not be such a dire rush to get it going asap if the conditions are hazardous as predicted.
As far as I'm concerned. The NJ Shore can be wiped off the grid by one swift wave and it would be for the better of humanity.
We may take a few good unintended casualties. We may lose good men, women and children.
But it's better for mankind in the long run.
Got an automated call about an hour ago from PP&L pretty much telling us to expect outages of up to a week or longer. They brought in 1500 volunteers from elsewhere, but their safety comes first.
The stores here were wiped clean on Saturday of any kind of battery, lamp, and the typical mass panic food items (bread, milk, eggs). We managed to grab a few LED "lanterns" to go with our oil lamps we've had for ages. Our electric goes out pretty often here for the slightest of storms, and the fact PP&L actually called this time, we're totally expecting to be without power for a week now.
Well, I've got a stack of books to read. So I'm set for a bit.
Hey guys! I have a time machine and I went and took some pictures of New York the day after tomorrow.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
That's what some people are acting like. Fucking end of the world shit. I'm still not convinced this shit is george clooney killing stength, fool me once shame on you, fool me 5 times shame on me.
we still dont know when we're being put on standby. Our FD is combo paid/volunteer, but you'd think theyd let us know by now when its gonna start for us...
I'd rather be on an island off the coast with no food, shelter, or clothes in the middle of the hurricane than watch that shit again.
If anyone in NYC needs a place to crash you can sleep outside my building. Sidewalks heated.
yo are the liquor stores open tomorrow, i might need more
Can watch Connecticut outages live here: http://www.cl-p.com/outage/outagemap.aspx?sec=fb
The fact that winds are only gusting at 25mph at the moment and there's still some outages starting doesn't bode well for us. :/
Coastal Long Island, especially the Sound, is gonna get torn up @.@ had a mandatory evacuation earlier, bunch of friends stayed behind though.
northeast, yeah. by south, i mean literally just south. draw a straight line horizontally across the country sort of deal. even so, as far as i can tell, you guys dont get the sustained snowfall we do. we don't get hurricane byblows, though, so it evens out. like i said, each area has its own little present mother nature likes to drop off, but its all pretty balanced. its just fun to make fun of other regions. because fuck those guys.
