I can't wait to wake up at like 10am-noon, look outside to see it starting to really pick up, and heading to the firehouse. Irene was a blast, can't wait.

I just hope all my friends come home safe. Ever since my friend was killed in the line of duty two years ago, any radio silence or units not responding really gets to me, even if only for a few seconds.

Honestly it is not the end of the world. Only thing that sucks is lack of AC for a week+ in some cases. Tropical Storm Allison was pretty awful because it moved so slowly it just dumped so much rain. Hurricane Ike sucked pretty awful too. I think our power was out over a week, and it was hot as hell. Standing out right before -> right after the eye passed was pretty awesome though.

    It was raining sideways!

Im 30 mins out of Philly (NJ) and its pretty windy right now. I work at a grocery store and they want us to stay open even though every other business in town is closed tomorrow. Screw that, im not going in today at all and maybe not tuesday.

But, I hope this doesnt prevent me from getting Assassin's creed 3 tuesday

You don't want to live in Shelton. It's a mix of people from Bridgeport/Stratford and people who want to think they're as rich as people from Trumbull/Fairfield/Westport but aren't.

But it'd be the shortest drive to work considering I work there.

I'm off on Monday, but my 7-month pregnant boss has to open the store (her boss refuses to let us close). So kinda worried about something happening while my 120lbs preggo boss is going to and from work in these winds and rains. And going to laugh when no one buys anything so the store loses money just from being open.

Work called off for the storm.

Not sure if a good thing. Way safer at work, plus gas generators if the power goes out!

Don't forget that all that water it drops is could to turn to ice over the days afterwards. Lots of trees still have their leaves on them. The surge will keep water from draining and being drained if it freezes (turns into a Nor'easter )

My dad has the 1 seat in the living room turned to the window with the curtains open so he can watch the storm when it hits.

Also texted my supervisor shortly after my last post, office is closed today and possibly tomorrow(have to call in later on to see). Power should hold out here cause most of the power cables here in Brooklyn are underground.

You're looking at a repeat of the 91 "perfect storm". Everyone is disregarding it because it's "only" a cat 1, but it's sustained hurricane force winds are 175+ miles wide with the whole storm like 600+ miles wide. Hurricane force winds @ 900mb at 1500' and the omgwtf storm surge is going to fuck shit up in NYC(not to mention all the states that will get flooded). I've seen models showing 35~' waves predicted at coastal landfall.

One thing that caused power outages during Irene was winds knocking down power lines last year, since several parts of the city still have them, usually out in Queens. Alot of people avoided that situation since our stuff is run underground.

It isnt the wind that will get them it's the shit ton of water about to pour into the underground.

Also, this should be a lot worse than Irene
