It's not that bad here in Mt. Laurel yet, but work got cancelled anyway. At least I managed to not have to work on my birthday. My girlfriend got called into work for some stupid reason. I told her she needs to go home. The newsletters and power points can wait.
Apparently my job is open even though we have no bread, water, milk, eggs, etc and its packed with people right now. No idea wtf people are thinking, lol.
Im in Glassboro, NJ, nothing bad yet but going to get bad in the next few hours.
Im in Swedesboro and there's just been prolonged rain with some wind gusts here and there, though work also got cancelled. We have a big detention basin out back, and it's almost up to the big trash rack outlet. I've had a million questions from neighbors about it flooding us out, since were about 30 feet set back from it. It's got a giant overflow weir out much lower on the other side to a pretty big stream so if my design courses taught me anything it should hold up well for this kind of storm. Still do have my qualms with the amount of rain we're supposed to get though.
My sister-in-law had to go in to work at her tiny bank in salisbury, MD, when all the other big banks are closed. These places make no sense.
I'm in Yonkers NY. They said hours ago (midnight) to get ready. I'm sitting here at 10:30 AM with the same wind that was going on then, work was cancelled (needed to get shit done today) Wut. I'm not saying it's not gonna be bad, but I could have gone to work. Now instead tomorrow will be all sorts of fucked up and work will be open.
That's fucking fantastic lol.
What Tyven posted. Not what Od posted, that kind of sucks.
Man, what was everyone worried about? Still just mildly annoying winds, and a bit of rain here.
I love the general outlook/attitude you're all displaying.
I'm not sure how to describe it, but it feels ... family. And dare I say, fun?
You know if the world ends in December or whenever, I'd love to participate in such a thread.
still intensifying.
90mph sustained winds (up 5 from 8a), 943mb (down 3), moving NNW @18mph
for you New yorkers, Holland and Brooklyn Battery Tunnels closed @2p today
I know what you mean. Our service center/dispatch center usually gets closed 2 or 3 times per year due to weather but the dispatchers still have to report to work even if they sit at their desk and play angry birds. When emergency services are shut down, they ask for volunteer drivers from the contractors to ferry dispatchers and call receivers to and from the center. It's nice because we get paid for the standby and mileage for the shuttling. But it's incredibly lame to send people to work when there is 18 inches of snow and every major roadway is shut down...
I loved driving around in the snow and ice though. I drove one of three vehicles in the fleet that had 4x4 capabilities. Good times that.
