Yeah just got home. Nothing really huge, couple houses without power. No leaks so far. Had trimmed back all the trees earlier in the week so none fell near the house yet.

Apparently the power went out and the fire is from an outside car and NOT from inside of the building, thank you for scaring me.”
In some ways, it seems like we're lucky that this was a freak end of October storm. About two hours before landfall, the pressure readings from the eye were what you would expect from a Cat4, and was the lowest pressure recorded north of the Carolinas since 1938 (source: Mark Searles this afternoon from WJAR-10). Searles was saying that the pressure dropped after the point where it stopped being a tropical system, which is why it didn't intensify too much despite the crazy pressure drop. Could you imagine if this had been a Cat4 slamming into NJ and NYC? Holy lord.

The reason why this storm is worse than what people expected is the fact the storm surge never weakens, if a hurricane is a 5 and hits land as a 2, it still maintains a cat 5 storm surge. The rain isn't going to be that much of an issue because the storm is trucking, but the surge remained the same at the highest strength of the storm.
It's a wake up call that the city isn't prepared for a full-powered tropical system creeping up the coast and nailing us with stronger winds. Sandy didn't bring torrential downpours either.
If this is the future of hurricanes (one system managing to creep up the coast), we'd better get our shit in gear.

8 year old boy dead to tree limb.
Updates seem to be sparse now, I think the morning will bring a better view of the damage. I feel the body count will rise with what Ive heard over the scanners of people trapped in areas that responders couldn't get to, not to mention those who couldn't call.
Another thing to take into account, the northeast side of a hurricane/tropical storm is the worst place to be, the farther west you are away from the eye wall, the better you are. All the powerful shit is on that northeast side of the eyewall.
Storm's dying down in NYC I think. ._. Power was flickering like nuts before but now it's stable.
