    Re: Hurricane Sandy

most of ocean county is flooded. we have lots of man power and strike teams but not enough boats. not even the duece and a halfs can get through some of these streets the water is so high. The thing is, we're on the water, and we have a lot of boats and jet skis, but we still don't have enough.

Also, oyster Creek is fine. We almost responded to it but it was nothing.

Update: There is now an FDNY dispatch calling for "All available units responding to Bellevue Hospital for mass evacuation of all patients."

Update 12:50 p.m.: There may not have been a fire there earlier this evening, but according to reports, officials are now making preparations to evacuate the entire Coney Island Hospital and its 244 patients. According to the report, they have only about 4 hours of battery power left. CNN reports, "New York’s Bellevue Hospital Center has flooded basement, using emergency backup power, but no injuries reported."

I can say there's at least a few times times we (at NYC) got word of weather being bad and all of it was over-hyped and those storms barely did anything. :/ This is definitely the worst. but, heck, there's still videos of people just running around dancing in the hurricane. NYC's still holding up pretty well anyway though. <3 NYPD and NYFD. If we weren't prepared at all I think flooding would be so much worse, hit into all the zones, and power outages might've hit the whole city.

Well the great thing about this was the fact that everyone in the 21-30 year old age group in DC decided to brave the elements and get fucking plastered. Had an absolutely fantastic time out tonight.

Statement from MTA Chairman Joseph J.Lhota on Service Recovery

The New York City subway system is 108 years old, but it has never faced a disaster as devastating as what we experienced last night. Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on our entire transportation system, in every borough and county of the region. It has brought down trees, ripped out power and inundated tunnels, rail yards and bus depots. As of last night, seven subway tunnels under the East River flooded. Metro-North Railroad lost power from 59th Street to Croton-Harmon on the Hudson Line and to New Haven on the New Haven Line. The Long Island Rail Road evacuated its West Side Yards and suffered flooding in one East River tunnel. The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel is flooded from end to end and the Queens Midtown Tunnel also took on water and was closed. Six bus garages were disabled by high water. We are assessing the extent of the damage and beginning the process of recovery. Our employees have shown remarkable dedication over the past few days, and I thank them on behalf of every New Yorker. In 108 years, our employees have never faced a challenge like the one that confronts us now. All of us at the MTA are committed to restoring the system as quickly as we can to help bring New York back to normal.

    Still can't leave my house.

Scary as fuck right now alarms going off in all directions and I can't check to see wtf is going on. There's at least two downed trees one that I'm convinced hit someone.

I'm scared to go back to work/school tons of towns around me are on the water. Can't get in contact with many people because of phones being dead I hope...

13 dead I hope that's true I fear its far far worse then that once First responders get to zone A

I feel extremely grateful that this storm seems to have only grazed Maryland and the DC area. My thoughts are with you all, please stay safe and keep us updated.
