The latest they are saying for Philly is that it will probably swing east of us and hit the Jersey shore and possibly NY pretty hard. They are saying 6-10 inches depending where it hits land. Last year Irene dropped 6 inches on us, but it had rained for nearly 3 weeks straight leading up to it so the ground was already saturated then.

I just got back from Target and the supermarket and it wasn't any busier than a typical Satyrday afternoon, and they had plenty of essential type items that normally sell out when bad weather hits.

They're calling for gusts up to 50mph in western MD/eastern WV. We had worse during the derecho this June.

I usually keep a good supply of provisions incase the zombie apocalypse decides to consume us. I went to test out my generator I used during the last big storm back in June and found I needed to replace some of the spark plugs. I just used it to keep the fridge and freezer going thinking it wouldn't put a lot of strain on the thing (was a hand-me-down from my in-laws) and it kinda sputtered and died.

If we do end up getting hard, I hope the wife and kids like Spaghetti MRE's and fried bologna on the battery powered grill.

I like beer. Where you at? We can coexist for a spell while the kids and wife fend for themselves.

everyone in our town received a phone call today telling us not to put leaves in the street till after the storm passes. My neighbor up the hill then decided that today would be the best day to do his yard =/

Welp looks like NJ is in a state of emergency to prepare for it and get all the resources ready and set up to go. One of the main power companies in the state, JCP&L, said expect 7-10days without power. We went out and bought a generator today since during the hurricane last year we lost power for 46 hours (yes, I counted every single one) and it was the worst thing ever, I can't imagine doing it again. The barrier island is being slowly evacuated today and mandatory evacuations tomorrow, you MUST be out of places like atlantic city, wildwood, seaside etc by 4pm tomorrow. They are closing west/southbound atlantic city experessway and parkway after 6pm tomorrow and only allowing traffic out of the areas, as well as closing tolls so people don't have to pay.

I'll probably be at the firehouse for the worst of it monday/tuesday doing standbys. Ocean County is supposedly going to get hit pretty hard. A lot of the projections show it going straight through the county, but it has moved slightly north so maybe I won't get the eye. The worst part is when the other storm hits at the same time, can't wait.

I'm in the bubble, but like I said I'll be doing standby at the firehouse (probably for 48ish hours). Which means beer, poker, pizza with the guys the entire time while we watch the storm out of the truck bays.

I'll be fine. It's just one of those weird situations emergency workers go through.

Basically, everyone is out stocking up, getting supplies, generators, food milk what have you, and so am I... but I won't even be home. I'll be running emergency calls. Trees on houses, houses struck by lightning, roofs blowing off, collapses etc. I'll be driving through it and doing the rescues, and in reality I'll be safer at the firehouse than I would be at home. But its just weird to stock up when I won't even be here lol.

    This guy put it best:
"As Im reading the posts about my friends, most of whom are police, dispatchers, paramedics, nurses, EMT's and fireman both paid and volunteer, all of whom are writing how they have their house stocked and ready to go. It struck me that almost all of them will not be at home to safely ride the storm out.... they will be out doing what they do best to make sure we are all safe and sound..."

Our motto is pretty simple; "Stay Alert, Stay Alive." And for the most part it works pretty well.

ill be doin the same boyiee, cept up here in connecticut and minus the beer (no alcohol in the firehouses allowed). we're gettin the northeast side of the storm so thyre expecting 50+ mph winds for at least 24 hours. our town has its own electric division and theyre good about responding quick to lines down and power outages so hopefully it wont be too bad in that department. gonna be interesting for sure though

I think i was without power for like 5 days last year, and even with a generator, that was fucking hell. We have no generator this time around

I guess i better stay up until it goes out
