Astoria we never lost power.....it flickered but it never went completely out. Still have cable and everything. Yay for underground shit.
I care somewhat, because while new york is in trouble now, the country could be in trouble for 4 years if mittens is elected. While the excuse could be "they could have early voted", that doesn't matter much if they can't postmark that shit before election day no? And they've never changed election dates in a state due to weather, right?
Obligatory I hope every one stays safe, recovery is smooth, etc; but the world moves forward, still have to think about the days after this.
What a douche reporter, should never ask political questions when shit like that happens, lol. You already know the guy is irate as shit because he probably hasn't slept since the storm hit or at best, maybe an hr or two.
I'm not a fan of Christie but his response was excellent.
Whether you are a democrat, republican, independent, or something else that was a pretty awesome response by Chris Christie, well done.
My favorite part was how irrelevant he made Romney out to be, while boasting how helpful Obama has been. All on fox, haha.
Christie knows that this isn't the hill he wants to die on.
Here was Christie's warning before the storm to people...
Thats why you listen to your local officials, government when they say get out, you get out. Southeastern Louisiana went through a lucky period of about 20 years with hurricanes where they always turned east or west at the last moment sparing places like New Orleans. When Katrina happened, people expected her to turn at the last minute, didn't take it seriously and said "meh, it'll miss us just like they always do" and everyone knows the rest of that story. Evacuating sucks, it took me 15hrs to get to my aunts house in 08 with Gustav bumper to bumper on the interstate, a trip that usually takes 3hrs but in the end, it was worth it.
Can't get to Freeport. Getting past rvc is crazy as they are their own power grid and have the only 2 gas stations working

KETTERING, Ohio – Mitt Romney repeatedly ignored questions about his position on federal funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at an event for storm victims Tuesday.
After speaking briefly to supporters and gathering donations Romney, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and some campaign staffers headed outside into the cold, rainy afternoon and proceeded to load up a yellow Penske truck with supplies, canned goods and other donated items.
“Governor, are you going to see some storm damage?” one reporter asked.
Several others again asked Romney whether he would eliminate FEMA.
“Governor, you’ve been asked 14 times. Why are you refusing to answer the question?” one asked.
Romney ignored the reporters’ queries and continued loading up the truck. Earlier, during the event, he ignored similar queries.
During a 2011 primary debate, Romney supported the idea of curtailing federal disaster response and letting states and the private sector take on a bigger role.
“Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction,” he said. “And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better.”
Campaign aides insisted Monday that Romney would not abolish FEMA if he became president.
At the office, power is going to be off at my apt for a few days. There is power 500 steps from the front door of my building, kind of annoying. Trying to find a place to shack up for a few days but most of my friends live downtown or out in Brooklyn so I simply can't get there.
