Re: The who will you be voting for Poll and Discussion Thread

I seriously have yet to have a discussion with my parents about Obama that doesn't involve the words taxes, handouts, socialism, Ayers, and Muslim.

That's another good point as almost all of the amendments that were pushed by the republican congress in Florida are tax breaks that will either increase the budget by millions or are set to be paid for by taking money budgeted for schools. Most of which could have simply been voted on and do not need constitutional amendments. The strategy being either the Republicans use that as leverage to cut more programs because of the budget they've created or leave the deficit to Democrats who will either be attacked for raising taxes or for wreckless spending that endangers the futures of our children's children's children-babies.

It's already been stated and I was saying the same thing regarding pell grants, but there's no equivalence in not having a perceivable improvement in your life compared to someone actively fucking you.

This. If i had to vote, i'd vote for obama, because he's not quite as terrible as romney. Fortunately i don't, so i won't be signing up for jury duty to vote.

    Spoiler: show
Yes, that's 7 elections that ended with a tie since 1886, and 13 that were decided by a single vote since about the same time.

Think about it like this, CS: If it's been this bad for you under Obama, just imagine what kind of let-them-eat-cakery Romney is going to pull.

I'm not american, but I would vote for the lesser of 2 evils. It's shitty situation you guys are in: a crazed theocrat, a RL Carcetti and a system that robs all relevance from third party candidates.
Worst part is... at least 2 of those elements aren't specific to this election: in 4 years, you'll still have a crazed theocrat and irrelevant third party candidates, we'll see on the third item.

Best way to look at it:
If you're in a state that you know will have a solid outcome either way (solid blue states like NY or solid red states like...well, anything in the south), you're free pick a third party candidate, and should. Number one, you say fuck you to both candidates for ignoring your state. Number two, the third party candidates need your vote to qualify for further elections (i.e.: public funding, being placed on the ballot, etc). And number three, third party candidates are the ones most likely the stand up to this shitty-ass two party system.

If you're in a state that you know will not have a solid outcome either way ('battleground states' like OH), it's important to make sure you vote for whichever of the two candidates most closely holds your views.

Hope that helps someone decide (though, honestly, who hasn't decided by now...). Also don't forget that there's more than one office up for election this cycle. Pay attention to local, state, and federal non-pres. elections.

So I got my sample ballot in, and I was looking over the entire thing to see the names of some of the parties running. Like the Socialist party, the Legalize Marijuana Party, the Not Like Them party, etc.

I came across the sheriff portion, which had 3 candidates listed. A Republican and Democratic option, of course. And then the third who caught my eye... the Call of Duty party. What a boss, I am so voting for this dude who I've never heard of before. It makes me want to run for Sheriff one day under the Blackhawk Down party.

    @thread
Pretty much everything has been said. I'll be voting Obama, and my entire family will. I've shown them the flipflopping Romney has done, and we all just can't stand him. Both my parents have lost their jobs in the past year and it's been a little harder for us, but for the most part we're all happier. While this doesn't really affect our votes, Obama has done some huge things that directly affect us. Extending the age for medical benefits was huge for me, absolutely huge, and I receive Pell grants.

I try extremely hard to be non-biased when talking to friends, encouraging them to vote, and giving them facts when they scream ROMNEY WOOOOO. It really, really irks me when people say "well what has Obama done in the past 4 years, WHAT, SHOW ME ONE THING HES DONE!" Which is why I now have a word doc on my phone with a list of over 200 things that affect a variety of people so I can always point out things that directly affect each individual. I don't mind republicans, in high tax brackets with high incomes wanting to vote for Romney, but I can't stand people making nothing and struggling and wanting to vote Romney because they are uneducated don't know any better are racist or whatnot. And as mentioned, I especially hate people that ask what Obama has done. Like really. Another guy was like "what war ended?" I just wanted to drop kick him in the fucking face.

CS is using common sense and will be 1 of the few poor people that aren't short-sighted and understand: "it doesn't fucking matter who's in office, your shit ain't getting better." Infact, Obama's making cuts to SS and Medicare that will most likely effect me and CS when we get older.

Apparently shit isn't anywhere near bad enough for these hipsters living in a bubble to start protesting on the scale of Spain or even Canada. I don't wish to see the country burn in flames or any of that anarchic garbage, but we damn sure won't see a sudden temperature change in the media with a popular uprising against all the morally-bankrupt shit that Obama will continue to support in his next term. People usually say he's the lesser of 2 evils, when in reality, he's the more "effective of the 2 evils."

Anyways, as far as the more important shit to vote on, FL doesn't have anything worth voting for on the same scale as California has on their ballots. If I lived in Cali, I can honestly say that it would be my first time voting as there's actual life-changing shit going on like the proposition to start requiring GMO-labeling, 3-strikes amendment to save folks from receiving life-terms for petty/non-violent crimes, and abolishing the death-penalty.

Hell, I'd donate most of my free time volunteering to educate voters on those props, nevermind passively voting on a damn talking-head for 1 day out of the year and then returning my attention to more important things like the new Apple iScam coming out.

One reason why CS should vote is that in FL we're voting to keep or remove 3 Supreme Court Justices. I myself do not want to find out who Rick Scott would replace them with.

You're delusional if you think drone strikes are going away anytime soon. This should of been the republicans best attack on Obama but the issues been nonexistent across both parties. Drones are now the accepted norm for how to deal with terrorist.

Seems like every political thread has at least one or two complete morons show up and distract the thread with their ignorance.

Romney is a piece of shit. Obama isn't perfect but who is. However, I would consider American two party politics the battle of slightly left of center vs. slightly right of center. Someone show me a third party candidate for President that isn't a completely extreme to the left or right zealot?

I'm voting for Obama. Hell, my parents actually disowned me pretty much this week because I was talking shit about Romney on facebook. At least I know my vote will counter act one angry old white man. Glad I have a sister also, hers will counter act my batshit crazy mother.
