    Allocating RAM to video

I've always heard I can allocate more system RAM to video processing but i was never able to figure out how to do it. Could someone explain to me like I'm a 6 year old how? My system is:

    Intel I-5
    Geforce GTX 560 TI
    16 gigs of RAM
    Windows 7

    Thank you

This isn't going to work the way you're thinking. System shared video memory works completely different and is used for anything but gaming or high-end use.

Get a better cooling solution if your shit sucks, and then overclock the fuck out of everything on that system.

i wasn't 'thinking' any particular 'way', and my 'shit' works just fine. i was just curious what options there were to tweak this system.

so since that was little to no help, anyone else who's got some thoughts i'd welcome them

Little to no help? I just told you whatever you've heard about allocating hard memory for video, it isn't going to work for your application. Shared memory is often used in business or budget PC builds where a dedicated graphics card source doesn't exist.

As for "Tweaking" your system. Overclock everything. I don't think you can do much more at this point besides hardware upgrades.

he might have been a little rough around the edges in his way of saying it but pikarya is right, you have a dedicated card, you cant allocate more vram to it
your other options are buy a bigger video card that is an upgrade or overclock

you have no idea what i have or haven't heard about allocating hard memory for video. i divulged no details of whatever i have or haven't heard very specifically and intentionally. so again. anyone else want to share their knowledge do share.

    Contravene.

Goodluck, overclock or upgrade your hardware. Or keep dreaming about allocating 12 gigs of RAM to video. Whichever works.

You come here asking for advice, then ignore it or blast it because it's not what you wanted to hear? Get the fuck over yourself.

Your system can't be "tweaked" to get any more performance out of it using vram, that's not how it works. The only way you'll get a noticable performance boost is to overclock your processor, ram, or video card; all three if you have the cooling for it. Now stfu and gtfo, you're the worst.

well yeah because what i "wanted to hear" was an indepth explanation of what is involved, instead what i got was 'whatever you're thinking is wrong do something else instead'.

as i mentioned in my original post, explain it to me like i'm a six year old. i don't even know what system shared memory or vram is or for that matter what overclocking is... hell all i know about it is that it breaches warranty for some reason. that's also why i left out any details of what i already had found out some research... obviously since none of it worked, all of it was wrong, i didn't really need someone else telling me that. no point in rehashing what i've tried, i figured i'd start with a blank slate.

    so...

no. no. and... you guessed it... no.

what i will do is try to get this thread back on track. now that a few specifics have been brought up i'll specify questions about those.

first of all what is vram and how do i access it to mess around with it? i saw a bunch of options in my BIOS about memory allocation, but there wasn't really any options for me to click and noodle around with, graphics or no. as near as i can tell any memory settings seem to be pretty much hardwired in.

Except its a waste of time and if you had any expertise or knowledge about wtf is ahppening you would not need a 6yo explanation about shared memory.

    What is Vram? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VRAM

Can you allocate more ram to a graphics card? http://www.overclock.net/t/1270690/h...ram-to-the-gpu

It took me ~20 seconds to google, and ~30 seconds to make this post.

I forgot an a so I had to go back and edit, and THEN I had to go back and edit my edit reason because I said 'for an a' instead of 'forgot an a'.

i've actually read both articles in my previous research. the wikipedia entry is not for 6 year olds and the overclock.net thread is one of a number of threads i've read which have expressed various opinions, none of which were also meant for 6 year olds.

    anyways n/m i'll inquire elsewhere.
