Best Way to start learning R

Does anyone have any recommendations of the best way to start learning R? I've been doing some research and need a little direction in the best resources, books, or tutorials.

I have some basic/intermediate experience in programming, specifically with Python for analysis of genetic data; this experience was about 4 years ago so I'd guess functionally I'm a newbie.

I've never had a reason to learn R, but, the best way to learn [or relearn] a programming language is take code you are familiar with and recreate it in a second language. So, in your case, if you know some Fourtran and have some scripts or programs written in an older language, try to start from scratch and rewrite that code to do the same thing with different routines in R.

Once you get some literature and resources to start, try what I said above.
