What's with all the hate for lense flares? I don't enjoy them, but honestly unless they're pointed out I don't even notice them.
I feel like it's just the cool thing to hate about Abrams, seems like an odd thing to pick.
Oh goodness me. The director of the new Star Trek will direct a new Star Wars?
I wondered why I felt bad when I woke up today. That was my 90's nerdgland dying.
Quit your bitchin'. Abrams has shown he can do this genre justice. Just bring back the fight choreographer from eps 1-3. The Maul VS Qui Gon/Obi Wan and Sidious VS Yoda lightsaber duels were fucking awesome to watch.
Yoda's was a lot of CGI, though. Sadly, Bob Anderson isn't available having passed away, but I put the Maul duel more in the hands of Ray Park than the fight choreographer. That man made them look good.
The inheritor of Roddenbery and Lucas is Abrams. Let's just hope he doesn't pull an Anakin on Episode 7.
The fights looked cool but were stupid in many places, Ep 4-6 had this feeling as if you swung a sabre you will fuck shit up with elegance, Just the mere opening of a sabre had that damnnn shit got real feeling, In ep 1-3 not so, that flailing around with bunch of pseudo martial arts poses, really irked me. Its like in real Martial arts a true Master does not waste movements, there was alot of crap in those fights that was just there for flash.
My bad for looking at it through a martial artist point of view, I cannot help that. The movements you make with a samurai sword, just wont work with a staff or chinese broad sword and vice versa.
I do think JJ would do the franchise justice though.
Really gotta disagree w/you on this one. Ray Park mixing martial arts w/dual lightsabers was just boss. Plus I'm sure since Disney is behind the films, they'll keep the flash there to hook younger fans in. Just keep the slow-mo/bullet time effects out and you got some quality fight scenes.
Expecting epic space battles
i only have 1 question. and its the most important one. is john williams doing the music?
I understand but you have to realize everyones idea of a quality fight scene is very very subjective lol. It was not the issue of mixing martial arts, it was the bad mixing of martial arts, if you get me. I do agree Ray Park is boss and was the only thing that made me enjoy the first film, the rest of the first 3 in terms of fights were forgettable.
Epic space battles yes please.
abrams gonna rock this shit. look at all these lense flares, someone is about to be true to the source

^This man speaks the truth! We just one solid director for a new SW movie and people are complaining? WTF bg?!?
Im drunk and too lazy to quote who said it but fuck whoever said bring back the lightsaber fights from episodes 1-3. Its like fucking pansies frolicking around with "Laser Swords". Bring back that raw Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi fights. If you can't appreciate those lightsaber fights then you need to re-evaluate your taste in movies.
I was going to say Giacchino. I'd put him up there with Zimmer and Gregson Williams.
The problem with the fights in Eps 1-3 is that they were too perfect and choreographed. No emotion, no nothing. Just people swinging swords in perfect harmony.
In a real sword fight, I imagine none of that actually happens.
