At Star Wars Celebration VI last year, George Lucas gave fans a glimpse at the animated comedy series Star Wars Detours from Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes. Detours was conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense. As a result, we've decided to postpone the release of Detours until a later date.

pshh I didn't even look at the article. Ive also never heard of detours, never watched clone wars and only think Star Wars is an okay series of movies!

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced today at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that Star Wars: Episode VII will hit theaters in the summer of 2015 and that every summer after that will offer a "Star Wars" film, alternating with one of the standalone films.

We knew they were targeting "Episode VII" for 2015, but a summer date had not yet been confirmed. Also, while it was known they were working on standalone films, the fact that we'll be getting a "Star Wars" movie every summer is a new development. We don't know how many standalone films they are planning on making at this time in addition to the new trilogy.

A lot of people have been wondering whether or not director J.J. Abrams would have John Williams score Star Wars: Episode VII or if he would once again use his frequent collaborator Michael Giacchino. I never had any doubt in that Williams would return to score the film, but Abrams recently confirmed that he wants Williams to do it at a press conference for Star Trek Into Darkness. When the director was asked about it this was his reply,

Michael Giacchino is an incredible composer, who I was lucky enough to begin working with on Alias. ... He's truly one of the most influential members of our crew, and I think this score, he really outdid himself. Again, for Star Wars, it's very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film, because he was there long before I was.
