Lawrence Kasdan and JJ Abrams are replacing Michael Arndt as the screenwriters on Star Wars Episode VII. And the internet is running wild with rumors and speculations about why Arndt is getting replaced. Some good, some bad.
Earlier today Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy released this statement on StarWars.com about new work being done on Episode VII:
I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script. There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a 'Star Wars' story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production.
So what does that mean? Well Badass Digest is speculating that it's one of two things. First, this could mean Episode VII will be pushed from 2015 to 2016 (which seems likely). And two, the swapping of writers from Arndt to J.J. Abrams and Larry Kasdan could mean that Geoge Lucas' original Episode VII outline has been tossed out.
Badass has been hearing rumblings of an unhappy Abrams who threatened to walk out, over the state of the current script. And it looks like his threats were heard, but what does that mean for the new script? "My sources tell me that the focus of the story has changed in a big way, that it's a whole new set of characters being followed than in the Arndt script," writes Devin Faraci. And that there's going to be a completely "overhaul" on the script top to bottom. He doesn't say if this means they're throwing out the original Lucas outline, but it certainly sounds like it.
Good. If the script's not right, don't make it.
That is probably the best Star Wars news in a long time.
p much
Anything that involves tossing out any writing ideas Lucas had for this is a good idea. That man was a menace to his own creation, unless a strong enough team around him was there to slap down whatever retarded ideas he had and shape them into something good (read: Empire Strikes Back). The longer the leash, the more likely George's plans would end up wandering over to take a piss on the whole thing.
Still not happy with Abrams being tied to this.
i'd rather have lens flare than jar jar and whinakin

The Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures have reached a distribution and marketing agreement for the Indiana Jones franchise.
Under the arrangement, Disney gains distribution and marketing rights to future films, in addition to retaining its current ownership rights which it secured when it acquired Lucasfilm.
Paramount will continue to be responsible for distribution of the first four films in the franchise and will receive a financial participation on any future films that are produced and released.
Though Disney now owns the rights they have not officially announced that a fifth films is in the works.
Back in August while promoting his Relativity film “Paranoia,” Harrison Ford expressed interest in doing another film but as of right now no writers have been set to write a script and Steven Spielberg has not committed to a sequel.
That said, now that Disney has those rights they likely will move quickly to get a film in motion. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has expressed a lot of interest to monetize the brand ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm last year.
The last installment “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” grossed $783 million worldwide.
who cares about 10-12, if a movie gets released every 3 years that would be when, like 18 years from now
sure can't wait to see Star Wars 12 when I'm 50
I'm not interested in another Indiana Jones movie. As awful as Indy 4 was, old Indy getting married and retiring is a good way to end it.
Anoat system? Theres not much there
Lando system?
Really not quite sure how to respond to that video
This was not the Cha Cha they were looking for.
