Some stuff I found on KW, that's supposedly leaked:

'Zuo Ci's return confirmed. Uses the same weapon as DW5. Grey palette. 'Other' faction will have new generals, but are yet to be announced. Sun Quan will have a different EX weapon, into a edged sword, similar to Kaihime's weapon in SW3 (personal opinion: huh? She used a whip/chain right?) and the design makes him look more assertive than the one he had in DW6. All in all, THERE WILL BE NO CUT CHARACTERS. All factions will have new generals. Xu Shu is still around and retains his EX weapon. He will have small changes in his moveset, probably his charge attack.'

These are supposedly the new chars:

Yue Jin and Li Dian (both already confirmed now), Lu Su, Han Dang, Jia Chong, Guan Yinping, Zhang Bao, Guan Xing and Wen Yang.

Famitsu this week reveals three new characters to appear in Tecmo Koei and Omega Force’s upcoming PlayStation 3 sequel Dynasty Warriors 8. They are:

• Cao Pi (Weapon: Double-Edged Sword)
• Zhenji (Weapon: Flute)
• Xiahou Yuan (CV: Yumi Muchisen)

Stages in Dynasty Warriors 8 will be of improved quality. Its lineup of areas includes the Raging Yangtze River of Red Cliff, Rain of Wangcheng, Crossing the Morning Fog, Cloud of Dust, and more.

The magazine also shared new gameplay details.

There are three attributes to weapons: Heaven, Earth, and Person. Heaven is stronger than Earth, which is stronger than Person, which is stronger than Heaven. When the affinity of your weapon is superior to your opponent’s, a spirit gauge will appear above your enemy. (A red circle will appear on-screen to make it easier to understand.) When the gauge drops to zero, you can invoke Storm Rush. But if your weapon is inferior, a red mark will appear above your opponent. After accumulating attacks, strike them with a Variable Attack, and the Variable Counter will be invoked.

Also revealed, each character will have three Musou attacks.

The 3 Musou's will be Circle, R1+Circle, and an Air Musou from what I read.
