Friend of mine in NY is having a breakdown 'cause he thinks he has a hernia and his testicle hurts. He went to some general practitioners and they wouldn't take him, he found a urologist who said the earliest he could take him is a month from now. (wtf)

Nearest hospital is 20 miles away, and as we all know, the subways are shut down.

I told him to get a taxi or something but he only has VA insurance and doesn't want to pay for it. -.-; So now he plans on just waiting a month for the urologist.

In my head, if they consider it an emergency wouldn't they have taken him right away?

Kinda want more info so maybe I can get him to get that taxi.

I don't understand how he could wait a month with testicles that hurt. I passed a kidney stone once and felt like I needed a bottle full of vicodin, I can't imagine genital pain. He needs to just go to the hospital.

I went to the doctor for pain in my groin area a while back. The reason to go the doctor/hospital is to make sure there isn't an infection, which is easily found with a pee test. Does the pain move around to different sides or does it stay in the testicle? Does he mountain bike or cycle? I learned all of this at the doctor's office, after he pretty much agitated the shit out of the hernia. I also learned that most men develop a hernia in their groin area, its just a matter of if it effects you or not. If its a hernia, lay off the sex/masturbating, biking, and pretty much anything else that bothers it, and hope its not bad enough for surgery and slowly disappears.

Tell him to try to stay laying down, preferably on his back. I had a hernia once that moved like in-and-out kind of but it was fine when I was laying down. As soon as I stood up though, the pressure of the intestine pushing through whatever into my beanbag was too much to handle.

after my abdominal surgery, my right nut swelled up and got all tender. turns out it was just fluid buildup, and thus harmless, but it scared the shit out of me and was very uncomfortable (keep it elevated to solve this problem). it can be much more serious, though, and that's your nuts, dude. tell him we think its super-aids and he needs to man up and pay the cab fare.

Generally torsion would be an.unbearable pain. Less than that could be hernia, fluid.build up from an infection (can be both STI or non STI, there are infections you can get around there that don't require banging nastiest). Either way best to get to a hospital...

This is exactly the syptoms he's having. It tends to hurt if he's doing something for a long time, but feels better when he lays down. I tried yelling at him about losing a nut, dunno if he's gonna go though.

Could have some kind of bladder or kidney problems too. I know when I had a kidney stone my balls hurt like no other, and my back too. Was the absolute worst.

How bad is the pain? I had a friend lose a testicle in a matter of hours to...I think it was testicular torsion?

Or Lupus. All kidding aside though, like others have said it sounds rather similar to kidney stones (I've had 2 myself) or a hernia. Either way, tell him to get his nuts to the doc ASAP.

Two things that come to mind:

1: check for lumps/abnormalities.

2: consider lifestyle conditions which could be a factor, i.e. wearing tight pants, how you sit and what you sit on... these may be no-brainers, but a lot of people just don't realize really obvious shit...

Well, I know a thing or two about testicle pain. Don't over panic and think it's something like Cancer(Why would you even suggest that?)

Go to the emerg. Nothing else. If you treat it like a cold or something, everyone else will too. And if people want, I can regale you with my story of how I twisted my testicle.

Ask him if there is anything enlargement in the Testicle. If he has twisted it, if he doesn't get to the hospital fast enough, he's losing that bad boy. When I twisted mine, the doctor told me if I was an hour later, I'd have lost my ball.
