So I just got my vehicle registration paper, and it jumped up 100$ from what it was last year, to 315.15$.
How much does this shit cost elsewhere?

Here in Oregon depending on things like license plate replacement, updating address, new month stickers, lost title, etc., it can get really expensive, but the base cost for registering a new vehicle is $85. Add all those extras and you can pay well over $300. So don't lose your title or your license plates.
Edit: That's for a 2 year registration.
Kansas was about that, usually $250 - $350 if your car isn't an old pos. Texas has been a lot cheaper on the registration (~$60) and also requires a separate vehicle inspection, usually like $15. Annual stuffs
Cali depends on what you drive. If you own a truck you have to register it as commercial which jacks up the costs. My 08 Civic was I think 185 last year. My dad for his Tahoe and GMC that he uses for camping combined was about 700 bucks last year.
In Texas, I paid 74$ on my last car ( 2005 Chevy Tahoe ) but that was for one year. I just got a new 2013 Kia Sorrento, so not sure yet till next year when I get the paper in.
I think mine was like $60 for two years on a 2002 Suzuki Aerio, in NY.
Currently in Texas, but renewed my registration this year online with Arizona. For 1 year I think it was around 65 and I didn't have to go through the hassle of getting it inspected.
Just bought a car in Chicago, and apparently the price of the plates is included in the cost of the car. Was a nice surprise from when I bought my car last time, and it cost me a few hundred to plate it 30days after buying the car in Indiana
I think it was $85 here in FL, but I honestly can't remember. I do know that for my first time registration a few years ago it cost me nearly $400.
I have a 95 saturn that weighs around 2900 lbs, registration in July here in Hawaii was $296. I also have an 08 Envoy that weighs about 4700, registration last year was $399 and coming up in January is probably going to be ~$430-440. Those are for 1 year, and we also have annual safety inspections which are $15 if you don't have tint, and $20 if you do have tint. Didn't know it was so cheap elsewhere, damn.
97 Accord is <$90 for me. >.>
edit: ~$15-$20 smog check required though too in Nevada.
Been registering my vehicles in FL since '97. Back then it was about $40-42 a year. With my motorcycle being slightly cheaper until I got a vanity plate for it. This last year was like either $56 or $58 for a regular plate. Vanity plates and nonstandard ones costs more depending on what plate you pick. Florida has like 100+ different plates. From Save the Manatees to University of Florida to Fishing plates.
Its 315 for one year. Glad to know Quebec's not the only one raping their residents for having a vehicle.
Cost breakdown:
Registration fee: 108
"Tax on insurance contribution": 10.57
Public Transit: 75
Insurance Contribution: 117.43
Administrative Fee: 4.15
Registration in PA is $36.50 a year for my car. >.> Of course, we have required annual emissions testing too, plus inspection, which runs around $75.
Australia is $500-$1000+/year depending on your car. More powerful the vehicle the more you pay (some states based on engine size, others on weight). More than half of that is compulsory 3rd party insurance. Varies from state to state but they're fairly similar in cost. Cars also cost significantly more. 2-3x the US price is normal which increases insurance costs. When you take into account the average wages that is about right though, it just hurts more if you're not above that.
Wait, are people talking about just registration fees or excise tax fees?
To renew a registration her in MA its $50 for a car, and $30 for a motorcycle.
Excise tax is a different story, here it ranges based on your cars bluebook value. This last year I paid $185 for excise tax
I pay about $40 a year, no required inspections, or at least I've never had any kind of inspection. just ~$40/year. I'm in montana.
Depends.
OH costs me $50 a year.
KY builds in property tax and car value, so anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand.
