Christians and Climate Change

I was just on facebook when I noticed something on my news feed from a local tv station. They were covering Mayor Bloomberg's support of President Obama and citing the reasons as his response of Hurricane Sandy and his stance on Climate Change. They then asked what people thought about the topic. I never realized that some Christians honestly and truly believe to their core that God is the only thing that can ever and will ever affect our climate and that man has had no impact and no bearing on what can and will happen. I truly think that it was at this very moment I became an atheist.

Some of the quotes of note I took from the thread:

What is it he thinks they can do? Only God is big enough to make the climate change. If Bloomberg thinks he can do something about the climate, he is flattering himself.

I believe I'll vote for my values and I know who controls the weather.

just a reminder, God is in control of everything, that includes the weather, and climate changes, plus everything else

Is this the viewpoint of most Christians? Is this why climate change is largely discredited in the United States?

Not religious at all but..... I think the fear-mongering cult of climate folks are getting just as powerful as the fear-mongering (insert most religions here) groups. Which in both cases seems awesome business idea. Wish I thought of using some natural phenomenon to scare large groups of people to line my pocket book.

In this case, it's safer to go with the brand of fear mongering that saves the planet instead of the brand of fear mongering that rejects scientific thought. Also, considering that people have been discussing Climate Change for decades to little effect, I think some fear mongering is in order.

I'm in a University of roughly 1000 Christians, and I can safely say that they know climate change is a big deal and that they as Christians are responsible. Of course, they are more on the liberal side of Christianity that doesn't take the Bible as word for word but rather context-based (dominion over everything? oh that means we have to take care of it). So yea, I'm sick of seeing these fringe Christians that don't even follow the simple calling of their Lord to be stewards of his creation. It's always laughable.

Baptist school of thought that I never ever understood. When I was in college my sister got me to go to one of those Christian groups that was "nondenominational" which basically meant baptist where they kept saying I was going to go to hell 'cause I wasn't a born-again.

Anyway, that was an argument I had with many of them that didn't make any sense. Somehow, according to them, we all have free will but God controls everything including us. It made no fucking sense, but of course since I am not a born-again baptist, I was the heathen so they didn't need to listen to me.
