    I don't think anyone other than OF retards were seriously expecting to be playing a release edition of ARR before 2013 back when the roadmap was announced. Although it was easy to underestimate the scale of the changes being made back then, most people seemed to think the new battle system they introduced in 1.20 was going to be copy and pasted into 2.0. It shows how bad 1.19 and below were when SE was working on two different battle systems at the same time, one of which being redundant a year later. I'm sure there will be some cross over however and their 1.20 efforts weren't completely wasted.

    I don't suspect it wasn't a complete waste. Although I would find it a lot easier to rewrite an new system, than have to jump through hoops for parts of one code matching with new code, or worst case, having to write new code around the old.

    Oh it would definitely be easier to rewrite (I'm a software developer ) than try to work any of that old code into it. What I meant though is they'll probably use a lot of the design aspects that went into the 1.20 battle system. We know monk is completely changing but I imagine most classes will have a lot of crossover in terms of skills and how they play. The combo system for example is still there even if tweaked for improvements.

    Yeah, you are definitely right in that aspect. It is extremely easier in comparison to have a base to work off of, and the current 1.2 battle system was a pretty good jumping off point. Although, based on the Dragoon gameplay that we've seen in the Live Letters, it's a huge difference in play style, what with the mechanics of TP/MP/AP based actions versus having to deal with timers. That alone quickens the pace of combat by loads, TP management will actually be a thing now. I much prefer this new system because it lets me gauge exactly when I will begin my combo.

    That sort of brings me back to the golden days of Samurai solo-renkai pre-soboro/Sekkanoki, where you had to purely rely on timing of Meditate and Auto Attack to get that shit to land. That shit was so cash. Separated the men from the boys.

    The massive battle mechanics shift of... 1.18? (the one where all the old spells and abilities were removed/remade/reassigned and we got the 2-stat DD system and such) was kind of like a test of the new direction they were going in.

    If they had waited for 2.0 to do it they wouldn't have really been able to do jobs because they were designed around that new system and they wanted, no doubt, to release the jobs asap to keep people interested. Post 1.18 was sort of the start of the beta for the combat system, we know a bunch more changes are coming but it gave them more time to see it in action and work out the kinks rather than have to do it all in the 2.0 beta.

    Tbh I missed the old ways of anyone can use any ability, unbalanced as all fuck of course but I really enjoyed the freedom and versatility. After the change every class just kinda got pigeon-holed into the roles that they would be filling once the jobs came around.

    It was SE's fault anyway. They should have just not picked the question to answer. It made no sense to pick that question then answer it saying they had no stance and would leave it to the OF mouth breathers to debate it.

    Anyway, on topic, I'm interested in SE's version of GW2 dynamic events. FATE, I guess they are calling it. This is something I KNEW they were going to add in when GW2 was getting a lot of buzz. It also makes for a great alternative way to level. Just give people variety and choices, I say. So far, for leveling, we have Guildleves, Leveling Dungeons, FATE, and Quest Leveling System. Pretty good so far.

    Pretty much for now. Hopefully it will encompass a lot more than Behest/Hamlet in the near future. For now, it's just going to represent free-for-all events... which is pretty much Behest, Hamlet, and what we have known so far as "live events" (imperial attacks/Atomos/etc.).

    I would be betting on Campaign like events, with a small possibility of something on the order of Tequatl the Sunnless/The Shatterer/Claw of Jormag, from GW2.
