Based on what little info we have of FATE, it doesn't really seem like something fresh. Basically just a reskinned quest that is randomly given out except we don't have to activate it with a NPC. It'll be something to do for sure and it'll spice up the game so least it has that going for it.

It was SE's fault anyway. They should have just not picked the question to answer. It made no sense to pick that question then answer it saying they had no stance and would leave it to the OF mouth breathers to debate it.

I think the main point here is that all should be treated equally. Giving it a different name would mean pointing out that these unions are supposed to be different when in fact they really aren't. Either way this doesn't really belong here and SE should just allow such a thing without asking people permissions or anything like that.

It's two avatars, what's the big deal? Heck my main is female so I can technically get married to another guy with a male avatar. Unless we're gonna argue that males should only create male chars it really makes no sense at all.
Gay marriage not fitting in the FF universe is kinda funny though considering it has a huge appeal to the gay community in general (and someone would probably point out Fang and Vanille at this point although I don't exactly agree).
If someone is offended by two avatars of the same sex getting married in a videogame they really need to reconsider their priorities in life. They'd probably never notice it anyway considering it's a private and fake ceremony inside a fictional church in a fantasy world where the rules of the real world clearly don't apply (unless we're now worshipping 12 different gods and I missed the memo).

No one should be offended or against it in my opinion. This is marriage in a fantasy game, that consists of tiny people and cat people, in a totally different world for a made up religion. How does gay marriage not fit in with this universe or the Final Fantasy universe as a whole? Why would we want to make this world have the same bigoted problems as our own?

Square Enix should have just not called it marriage, named it a Joining or something and avoided the whole 'controversy'.

FATE is currently just a very vague blanket term for any open-entry PvE "dynamic quest" events found anywhere in the game.
Behest, Hamlet Defense, Chocobo Caravan, Imperial Attacks, Lambs of Dalamud, Seasonal Events, etc. all would probably all fall under FATE.

It's most likely not going to introduce anything new right away other than however Behest/Hamlet are being reinvented (since their originally intended forms were severely limited by 1.0's server infrastructure). It's whatever is down the road that would qualify as FATE that might hold some interest.
