Also, since announcing that Chapman is going to be the closer, Latos and Arroyo have left games early due to injuries after both being hit by a comebacker.
Divine retribution, Dusty. You ignorant tool.

On the Red Sox front, it's looking more and more like Jackie Bradley Jr. is going to break camp with the big league team. He's got an OPS of about 1.100 this spring, batting .444 (over 50+ ABs)... plus plus arm and defender, 1:1 K/BB ratio... so he's been extremely impressive. Launched a HR off Cliff Lee the other day, been going oppo on a regular basis, pinch hit 2 RBI single off Strop today... There's just a ton of hype around him right now.
That said, starting him with the team, despite injuries to Ortiz and the horrible defense of Johnny Gomes, is beyond idiocy. If he catches fire and the Red Sox simply cannot justify sending him back down, then we basically sacrifice his age 28 season (2019) to free agency.
If we send him to AAA for 9 games to start the season, his service clock does not start until next season. If he starts the season in the big leagues, any demotions will need to be a minimum of 20 consecutive days to prevent him from accumulating service time. Demotions cannot take place for financial reasons, so the Red Sox would need to have a good reason to do it.
So yeah, 9 games of his age 22 season, or 162 games of his age 28 season. No brainer, right?
On other notes, I realize a lot of people have very low expectations for the Red Sox this year, and that's probably a good thing for the team. Still, I think the team should be pretty exciting to follow - for more reasons than just Jackie Bradley Jr.
Looking forward to seeing what Jose Iglesias does with his shot at the starting SS job while Stephen Drew is out. Kid has an amazing glove, Vizquel level defense. Horrible approach at the plate, but he's been hammering a lot of line drives recently. Doesn't work the count, doesn't walk, but he's at least competent up there, unlike in previous seasons. His glove is impressive enough, even if his OPS lingers in the .600s, he'll still be an extremely valuable player. Anything beyond that is gravy.
Will Middlebrooks is strong defensively at third, and seems to have improved his approach at the plate. If the wrist issues are truly behind him, he could put up a monster season (.300/30hr potential). With some polish, he could be a gold glove level third baseman.
Christian Vazquez, more of a guy to watch in the minors, but won't sniff the big leagues until 2014 at a minimum. He's not much with the bat, but he's a fabulous defensive catcher, and has a cannon of an arm. Good game calling/leadership skills. Useful part to keep in mind going forward, considering Saltalamacchia is a defensive nightmare.
Allen Webster, another guy who won't make the OD roster, but might be the first choice to fill in if/when Lackey's arm falls off or Doubront shit's the bed. Can't believe we got this guy along with Rubby De La Rosa for Nick Punto and $250M of bad contracts.
I can't even say anything negative about John Lackey, yet. Aside from David Ortiz's injury, the worst news out of spring training has been a lack of production/competence from Shane Victorino.
I should probably back away from the ledge, but I'm sucked back in. Put me down for 89-91 wins. Homerism go.
Guess parts of my team aren't bad, but parts of it are like.. turrble.
Opening day is Sunday so going to start up the new thread now.
