It mostly comes down to his role as VP of football operations and having final say in all personnel matters, along with his appointment of coordinators and assistant coaches. They brought up the death of Jim Johnson during the game today, and every assistant he has promoted to defensive coordinator has been below average at best (McDermott, Castillo). His current offensive line coach that he brought in runs a scheme that favors smaller, quicker offensive lineman to be more explosive in the pull running game, but the team is consistently 60-40 (at best) pass/run. His offensive coordinator used to be Brad Childress who actually was a good coordinator until he left to lol the vikings, since then it has been Morninwheg, who is really only remembered for choosing the wind in an overtime game. After Childress left the offense shifted from being a west coast offense to an OH GOD I HOPE WE SCORE RIGHT NOW offense (which doesnt work when your offensive line gets overpowered nonstop, allowing no time for plays to develop down the field), and since Johnson died the Eagles still generate sacks from pressure (minus the start of this season), but have no gap discipline in the run game, and havent for years.

The only positive for Reid is that at least in previous years his gameplanning has always been considered great, and the players and coaches have loved playing for him because he takes all the blame for losses and no credit for wins, which anyone who has heard a press conference from him can attest to. But along with that his game management skill has always been hilariously bad. But these things were always kind of "lol'd" over when the Eagles were winning because previous coaching staffs always found ways to win. The combination of poor coaching appointments and injuries has led to what the season has been thus far, though I am a sucker and havent given up on the season yet because I drink a lot and forget what happens on sundays.

Also, if you've seen the Eagles recently you will have noted they are god-awful at tackling, which most people agree is the first sign that players are basically mailing it in, which falls on the head coach. People around here think thats a sign that Reid has lost the team.

Different note: I am terrified of Andy Reid being fired, not because he has done anything to keep the job after 14 years, but because there are no attractive coaches out there to take a job that includes a bare cupboard at the offensive line and most likely a second year QB with no experience or an incoming drafted rookie, as when Reid goes Vick will be out the door shortly after most likely. I would love to see the Eagles rebound in fear of the other option of them becoming the browns of the NFC, scrambling for a new QB and giving first time coaches their shot. The job, at least the way I see it, would include nothing short of a complete overhaul.

edit: it should be noted his hiring of Jim Johnson was also considered odd at first as he only had experience as a LB coach before then, aside from a short stint with either the Colts or Seahawks, but the head coach got fired that year after his promotion and Johnson was out then and back to coaching LBs, so he was somewhat of an unknown quality.
