Let's not kid ourselves. If, somehow, Texas decided to leave, they wouldn't be alone. The resulting political shift in the remaining states would completely change the party system. The current dem part might become the middle party, the remaining republicans the right, and there would probably emerge a newer, left-er leaning party, the neo-dems or something. America would be fundamentally altered by the change.

I might disagree with policies, but what America has achieved over it's 200 years and how it has grown and changed should be celebrated, not torn apart. The loss of Texas would be a loss of national identity...even ignoring stupid issues like free travel, border patrols, military forces and integration...

We are a worse country for having Texas than we would be without it.

Same can be said for Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, etc., they just don't have quite as blatant a national impact as Texas's idiocy.

In the last 17 minutes, the texas petition got 800 more signatures. At that rate, it'll get like 1,761,882 by the 9th! That's 7% of texas.

As shitty as the majority of their people may be, they do kinda have an important natural resource. ~23% of the oil produced domestically comes from Texas. I think it comes out to about 8.5% of the total amount that we use.

Actually leaving the US permanently (not some vacation visa thing) is more difficult for the majority of the population than you might think.

Barring exceptional circumstance you must have:
1. A bachelor's degree
2. A clean record (hope you didn't do something dumb ever)
3. A job lined up (or WAY more cash than you'd need just moving to another state)

or

B. Get hitched (if you're a dude, this one has a slim-to-none chance of working, househusbands are not an overwhelming thing yet like the other way round.)

Generally, if you're capable of actually exiting the US, you could do just as well simply hupping it to a more amenable state instead.
More likely, you'd have to emigrate illegally and work under the table and hope you don't get caught. And considering just who is raising this ruckus, them having to do that, oh the humor in it is just delicious.

The military actually provides a European-out wherein if you are stationed in Germany at the end of your enlistment, you are afforded an option to apply for a work visa with a path to full citizenship. I know American's who've been in Bayern/Bavaria for 20+ years.
