I love the Hyur naming convention thread.
"Look at anything medieval, European, and probably related to the British Isles during that time"
Hmm Sign Post is already pretty close to a Hellguard Roe name. Interesting to see how much work they put into the naming conventions.
Lalafell and Roe modern names are essentially almost the same as tarus and galkas ?
By the way, they'll be allowing apostrophes in character names, so you can name your Miqo'te character something appropriately lore-friendly.
I'm curious how they'll limit their use though.
Star wars pulled it off. I think can't have two in a row and only one per full name? I forget exactly but that's what I get from seeing some names.
Havent seen it myself but I assume they explain the lore up to 2.0 if people just wanna listen for 45 mins. And its Dr. Mog and everyone knows him!
I didn't watch that DrMog video and am still not going to because it'll fuck with my headcanon.
I've got some phase 3 beta shit (and more now) to talk about since NDA is off that stuff, and no beta is going on so obviously I can cast Raise since no one's in combat.
EVERYTHING IS SPOILERS, FUCK YOU.
I didn't get past the first instanceraid quest tho
Ascians return in ARR, we knew this for a while but it seems a bit weird. I'm basing this off of music cues so it could be absolutely wrong though. Summoning voidsent is apparently using the "wisdom of the Paragons" though--so either Ascians = Paragons or Atomos is some sort of Paragon maybe? It's also possible/likely that the Paragons simply taught the Ascians how to summon as well and that summoning isn't limited to Primals. Er, that the Paragon's wisdom isn't simply summoning Primals.
Ascian = Paragons is problematic because the Paragons taught the beastmen how to summon and the beastmen are afraid of Ascians in 1.0.
I was unable to see if the masked mages had shadows (they seemed to be good at keeping them in areas where shadows wouldn't appear)
What the fuck is this Crystal shit? I know it's all MAH FINAL FANTASY FEELS, but in five years people are suddenly subscribing to "may you forever walk in the light of the crystal shit" and it bothers me.
Red Masked Man refers to Bahamut as imprisoned by aeons; using our Final Fantasy terminology book we can ascertain that Primals and Aeons and Espers and Egi are all similar/same things. The Twelve are likely the "aeons of imprisonment" mentioned by Bahamut's cultists.
Flame Commander Ryder is dead. Abandon all hope. (For the record, he's the guy you report to during United We Stand and had some minor background in Uldah GC quests. He was a real hardass soldier bro)
I didn't really take screenshots like I should've for these cutscenes, but here's the Imperial breakdown.
Nero Tol Scaeva is the red legatus (I'm betting of the fourth legion?); it's likely he's a magitek engineer like Cid and even more likely to be our main antagonist on release. Moreso than Gaius, as I suspect Gaius will be out of reach, much like Emperor Galvus. Nero uses a gunblade a lot like Gaius to the point it makes me angry. I guess they just have generic swords :E
Unrelated: prepositions in the Garlean naming scheme bother me. "van" is the preposition "of/from" for Nael and Gaius. And "zos" from the Emperor is similar to the German nobility particle (zu) but that can also be "von" this means Nero is from somewhere else, or has an entirely unique name. The only thing I can find is "Tol" being a Dutch name. The Garleans are a weird mix of Latin/Roman and Germanic. It bothers me sometimes is all.
There's some mention of frumentarium during the Hummingway scene, which is more or less synonymous with spies, lol
Atma Weapon (fuck you I'm calling it Atma) is carried by 3 juggernauts instead of riding on the Warship with the Legatii (? idk how to pluralize this shit); this seems to imply to me that there's a chance of it waking up/activating. I don't see what other reason there would be to put it out there in 'danger' unless it presented danger on the Warship.
If the weapon is biologic/allagan technology I expect Nero to fuse with it. If it is artificial/magitek I expect Nero to be it's creator.
There's someone credited simply as "Tribuni" during the Imperial CS, I expect this to be some generic guy. Don't make the mistake I did and assume it's a bro other than "Garlean soldier #37."
Also, I love the fact all the main story CS basically summarize all the shit I spent so much time scrounging up here! (Not sarcastic) What with the naming of continents etc
Bothersome truths is that Legacy characters will be utterly forgotten. The whole "can't remember their faces" thing is pointing towards that and it makes me angry. I wanted to show up and brofist my main man Raubahn. I wanted to be remembered as a bro who helped take down Nael van Darnus and fought in the Battle of Cartenau. At least the last part if not the former ;-;
The Echo still exists but probably owing the disaster of WOOSHES in 1.0 it's really fucking obvious. The music plays and the screen is like sepia-toned.
Shit like this just makes me angrier I can't be badass Legacy:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...inch-me-please.
NPCs will reference you fffffffffffuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkk but when I show up AS Rocl Montaigne what are they gonna say? "I once knew another Rocl Montaigne..."
Spoiler: show
This instance was actually just a dude being a badass enough OF poster to be put INTO THE GAME ITSELF
I'm pretty sure he said Bahamut was imprisoned for aeons (an archaic way of writing the word eon), meaning a length of time, not imprisoned by aeons. Plus, this way tends to make a lot more sense.
I could be mistaken, however.
I got the "aeons of imprisonment" as a measure of time, rather than subject. I think it was "after aeons of imprisonment," so I'm pretty sure context wise I felt it implied time.
This is why no NPC mentions me

It as after "the aeons of imprisonment" idk why I immediately went the way I did with my thinking, but it's not cut and dry at least at it would've been if he said "after" PHEW CHANCE OF ROCLWENA REVIVED
masked dude also says "That I should live to behold Bahamut once more" could he be SUPER OLD??? AEONLY OLD?
Female judge Legatus is Livia Sas Junius.
Nero is most certainly measuring aetheric distribution in Eorzea and seems to be following the reports of the 7th Legion.
This enough of a spoiler that I'm putting it in tags
Spoiler: show
Given the context there's nothing that would lead me to believe "aeon" would mean anything other than a long ass time.
You are surprised? How many "super old" people did we have in the plot of XI? at least 5 in the whole Zilart/CoP story arc.
I am glad to see we at least have story that is somewhat compelling. I just am saddened that unlike XI we can't all experience everything without alts.
As for your legacy account envy... at least we all get "legacy" tatoos on the back of our necks. At least according to the beta notes there is some command to show or hide tatoos on 1.0 characters only. A little nod to having survived is pretty cool.
What are you missing out on that you'd get to see in a different city?
Do you not fight the same masked dude, sending the same monsters, in all cities? The only thing that differs is the local flavor story and locale, which frankly, is not important enough even to take an alt to 15 to see.
I love your lore posts Rocl, I didn't get to play beta this last weekend but reading this definitely got my ARR hype back up.
Also, isn't "Tribuni" just a plural of Tribune? So, they 3 new bad guys aren't Legatii (or whatever shit) but Tribunes instead?
