It should be a new Castrum, because between Coerthas and Western Thanalan there's Mor'Dhona =S

Probably a Castrum at the Gravania zone, wich story didn't focus yet (Because the war at Ishgard etc etc...)

If that was Castrum Meridianum, ignoring that improbable perspective distance, from that position the teleport ring and structure should be reversed since are now viewing it from the north. Best case its a unknown castrum; worst case developer in charge of backgrounds got lazy.

If you speak with the npc Cailean inside the monument tower where that picture was taken, she does say:
It seems the fate of the Monument Tower to watch the watcher. 'Twas built to guard the Fury's Gaze, and the gem beyond the price hidden in its depth... And now it keeps vigil against the Garlean outpost, for the jewel that is Ishgard must never fall into the Empire's unclean hands.

In order to sufficiently hype myself for 2.2 I'm going through the open-ended 2.0/2.1 stuff now that might be addressed and spitballing some shit and rewatching old cutscenes from 1.0

The Ala Mhigan Resistance has long been a major player in XIV and knowing Warburton's true role in everything helps clear a hell of a lot about the 1.0 Ul'dah storyline (but not all of it; who killed Niellefresne, was it a returned Corguevais?)

Zombies are created by not burying your dead. [Those not properly returned to Hydaelyn are damned to spend an eternity wandering the wastes]

It is likely Corguevais was an Imperial spy and thought Warburton the same (and he sort of was, being a double agent for the Ala Mhigan Resistance). What was the threat that endangered all of Eorzea worse than the Garleans? The Primals? The Ascians? Probably the latter now, canonically. Warburton's journal was Imperial research on Primals-- which further strengthens the idea that Primals were summoned to Hydaelyn long before the Battle of Silvertear. (Warburton's Journal notes he dies in 1562, and this was the year of the Battle)

Also dragons were retconned from 'scalekin' to 'dragonkin' at some point, which makes some sense I guess.

The Baldesions are the only Sharlayans (which, if I recall is a country to the West? I have to look it up again) willing to interact with the Eorzean Sharlayans (Circle of Knowing) G'raha Tia is a Student of Baldesion, but shares the same markings as the Circle of Knowing (their old neck tattoos, and their new Yevon lookalike markings + aether goggles). Two Students of Baldesion die in the attack on the Waking Sands following the defeat of Titan; this makes G'raha the only known Baldesion alive (since Krile and the others are MIA now)

The Baldesions, and the probably Sharlayans at large know of Ascians-- enough to have "ancient" tomes in reference to them, so it could be that they are the threat in reference in 1.0 but how much of is this retcon and me trying to piece shit together from two different games?

    Only those with the Echo and/or knowledge of Ascians are able to see them? Weird. We know the Garleans lack the Echo but can see Lahabrea. Likely that the Ascians are able to toggle a "yes, i'm a thing" switch and Echo can always see them regardless of the switch's position. based on the explanation given in game, the Ascians might simply be the void or aether itself with a consciousness;

Seventh Ardor = Seventh Umbral Era
    the gift = The Echo

Hydaelyn is referred to as "our mother;" I expect a duality similar to XI's Altana/Promathia with Hydaelyn/Zodiark which is slightly bleugh

Oaths seemed to be divided by God:
    "Rhaglr take xxx!" (fuckin' xxxs)
    "Nophica have mercy!"

The City-State of Sharlayan is in Dravania, northwest of Ishgard. The island nation of Sharlayan is north of that, I believe.

I was wondering if they ever saw him before he was Thanbrea, but it has also been mentioned that the Ascians have appeared to the beastman tribes, so it seems as though they can be seen when they want to (and the Echo allows us to see through that).

One could argue that because the beastmen are tempered, they can see the Ascians (after all, isn't that basically what the Echo is?)

Perhaps, in some sense. Tempering appears to make the target completely incapable of thinking for themselves (which one could argue describes or characters perfectly).

Given that we seem to have been tempered by a higher being (that is, one more powerful than the primals), it is possible that we gain access to a different set of abilities (and avoid the negatives).

I kind of think of Tempering as a way of making something do what you want. All the Primals require crystals and "followers", so all the people they temper turn into unwilling worshippers whose purpose is to gather crystals and worship the offending Primal. It could be that Hydaelyn doesn't need those things, and so our purpose is different (our purpose being to protect Hydaelyn?). Do we have any actual evidence that not every tempered being has access to the Echo? It may also just be a side-effect of Hydaelyn's strength.

I think it's pretty similar to the l'Cie brand from XIII.

iirc, the Ascians taught the beastmen how to summon Primals, so technically, wouldn't they be normal and not tempered when the Ascians came knocking on their doorsteps? Moggle Mog also throws some kinks into that since the Ascians taught the moogles guard how to summon their not-quite-a-primal King as well.

I also wonder what form the Ascians originally came knocking in too. You would think they would go in human or beastman form (I assume they can possess beastmen too?) but in 1.0 the beastmen tribes all fled when they saw the Ascian in its Grim Reaper-esque form. So they must have recognized it. Also leads me to wonder what caused them to be so fearful of that form of Ascian too.

At any point in 2.0, do the beastmen ever see Lahabrea/Ascians or are they always chilling behind a rock / up a cliff / etc? My memory is fuzzy. I think the Sylphs do but they also weren't the ones fleeing in 1.0.

Casual reminders to get hype about 2.2:

Guardian is coming (solracht thinks it's General) [though this is likely to be 2.3]
    http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/G...Fantasy_III%29

Gilgamesh's model has 8 arms (2 normal arms we see in the CS, and 6 coming out from behind)
He also has a plethora of weapons including, but not limited to:
Bradamante - Nael van Darnus' gunspear
    Tournesol - from FFXII
    Masamune - from FFVII
    Ridill - from FFXI
what appears to be Naja Salaheem's Morningstar (or any generic Morningstar really)
    an axe and some claws

A Catoblepas model which appears to be based on FFV exists with about 4 different colours

    They've added Cerberus (likely 2.3)

A different type of XIII Behemoth (likely 2.2 Allagan, since 13 models were used in our first five turns)

Is it possible for non-beastmen to summon Primals? If it is, is it possible that Shiva is being summoned by the Ishgardians, intentionally or possibly mistaking her for Halone?

In the storyline there's an ascian that tries to push the Ala Mhigans into summoning Rhaglr, and Gaius speaks of summoning the Twelve, so yes, it should be possible for non-beastmen to summon Primal-like entities.

I don't see Ishgard actually having anything to do with Shiva though.

It's hard to see in the middle of all the particle effects but T2 enrage ADS has spiky bits shoot out of it every time it does the...enrage move thing.

Isn't 2.3 a bit too early for Cerberus to show up? Then again I can't see the CT taking more than 3 updates to be fully released so probably not.
