Yes, it's Midgardsormr, we first learned the Dragon's name in 1.0 from Elrik during the Monk quests. It's said to be the protector of Silvertear Lake as ordered by Nymeia and Althyk (unsure about the first god name, sure about the second).

Given recent developments it's probably Allagans.

If any of that lore actually mentioned in any quests or cutscenes in 2.0? My knowledge of the lore from 1.0 is a blurry remembrance of the opening cs. I didn't have enough arrows to get to the actual story.

Midgardsormr is obscured sometimes depending on the weather so it's possible to just have never seen it if you go out of Revenant's Toll (which the last few posts just proved...).

I do wanna say that the Crystal Tower has become more prominent over the last couple patches because I don't remember it being so clear in the background but I may just be eating shit too.

The Monk questline is more or less completely unchanged from 1.0, so yes. I'm also pretty sure there are tons of references to the Battle of Silvertear Falls, even if they're off the cuff and in-passing.

Well fuck, that entire fucking thing should play the first time you launch the game. I need to get all my friends and everyone in my FC to watch that.

Also, finally finished giving this entire thread a read through. Along the way I remembered I postponed doing so because I wanted to beat turn 5 first, and then forgot about that by the time I actually beat it.

I was rather bored with the story that 2.0 on it's own presented. After getting all this stuff from 1.0 to before 2.0 launch I'm actually looking forward to what happens next.

Yes, it's Darnus and given where it is in the trailer/the general feel you get watching the Coil preview I imagine he's waiting at the end of Turn 9. We see Nael after beating Twintania staring at Bahamut in the Central Core of the Ragnarok.

I'll have to find the pictures but there was a teaser of an arena that looked suspiciously like Rivenroad (which was Darnus' fight area in 1.0) to the point where it's obvious we're gonna fight him again imo.

The Meteor Survivor Ring quest goldsmith is Hildibrand's dad. Gilgamesh is the weapon thief. Enkidu is probably the chicken.

It would suck for someone coming in here to ask a benign question about Brayflox or something to have something fairly significant spoiled for them unintentionally.

Also, I didn't realize until now that Gilgamesh has Nael's old weapon (gunspear thing). Do we know how the hell he got hold of that?

Yes. There was a Hildibrand quest during the last days of 1.0 where they find Bradamante (the gunspear). When you defeat Nael van Darnus on the floating island of Rivenroad, the island begins to collapse and the cutscene super obviously shows the gunspear fall to Eorzea. During the Hildibrand quest our gentleman detective is trying to decipher Mezaya Thousandeyes' prophecy and one thing leads to another and Hildibrand thinks he's he destined to fend off Dalamud's impact and there's a farmer who bought Bradamante from a merchant who found it in Coerthas (which is where Rivenroad was floating above) because he thought it was a hoe or some sort of farm implement. Then Nashu accidentally sets off Bradamante and it + Hildibrand fly into the sky.

At least that's how I remember it. Maybe I'm google the quest cutscene later. Spoilers two minutes later I found it:



I was close. Hildibrand sets off Bradamante, not Nashu and it looks like he drops it as he flies towards Dalamud. It's liable to still be around Thanalan, which is where we find Gilgamesh with it at the end of the 2.1 Hildibrand quests.

So, the question is...is Nael van Darnus tempered by Bahamut/Zodairk, or is he acting of his own free will...?

I dunno, his actions in 1.0 seemed to indicate he was tempered.

nigga is crazy. probably tempered at the very least. "Deus" Darnus could've been either an Ascian or Bahamut 'assuming direct control'

I've always been of the opinion Nael van Darnus was batshit insane, fucked with the wrong shit, and ended up just totally detached from reality. Whether it's Bahamut or Zodiark whispering sweet nothings in his empty skull, I doubt you could safely say with the info we have.

I still look forward to their explanation as to how he has a corporeal form, considering we saw him kinda, you know, vaporize into thin air if I recall correctly.

Hey man, if A-Towa-Cant can have a corporeal form for a day why can't Nael van Darnus have corporeal form when within the shadow of his god?

Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure I'd consider A-Towa-Cant corporeal, but I guess by that same logic, there's no solid proof that van Darnus isn't some kind of ghost either. TBH, I was kinda hoping that the current van Darnus was just a re-created avatar of Bahamut's that he's using while his body is... tied up, shall we say.
