Odin is pretty much responsible for 90% of FFXI storyline, yes. He sets into motions the events for pretty much every major expansion and the vanilla game. The only one I can't tie to Odin off the top of my head is Adoulin and that's probably because it's not finished yet/I didn't get past that bit where you talk to Kumhau.

That aside, I don't want this to slide down the path of FFXI story as well cuz it's problematic enough keeping 1.0 and 2.0 XIV shit straight!

CoP was promathia, ToAU was Odin/Alexander, WotG was Atomos...never played adoulin so idk...odin can be "tied" to nearly everything bad in teh game, sure...but its fairly loose for everything but ToAU

and on ff14, I don't really like having loose ends in story, odin is just kind of there, nothing to him other than a fate...but he's a god of sorts, all the other gods have considerable story put into them by comparison.

Orz this is exactly what I didn't want to get into.

Odin is responsible for the Shadow Lord. The Shadow Lord / the Dark Divnity's Crystal shattering are major points in CoP. Something about the Shadow Lord's existence caused noise? in the Crystal Line which prevented the Zilart Princes from going back to opening the Gate of the Gods / Tu'Lia. The Zilart Princes directly drive the story in RoTZ and CoP is a direct continuation of RoTZ. Without the Shadow Lord, the events of CoP couldn't have happened and without Odin there wouldn't be a Shadow Lord.

Odin obviously played a huge role in the TOAU story so I'm not going to explain that.

Odin played a huge role in the WoTG story (so big I'm surprised you missed this?) as he was responsible for Lilith's world being a world of eternal war and again, WoTG features the Shadow Lord / Crystal War heavily.... which couldn't have happened w/o Odin. Atomos was Altana's "reset button" as our reality (where the Allied Forces won) is the 'second' outcome-- the 'original' is Odin making a pact with Lilisette (as well as Raogrimm/Shadow Lord) so they could fight on equal footing. Demons vs Demons, for all eternity, just like the Einherjar in the halls of Valhalla.

There are a metric fuckton of loose ends/threads. The game is still in it's infancy really, with 1.0 never having a real expansion on it's original story (the original main scenario is still vastly unresolved, only the 7UE scenario had any sort of closure) and just about the only thing we know is done is uh... umm... I can't think of a single thing neatly tied up with a ribbon in XIV yet. The main plot of the Garlean Empire is evolving, the Primals are still a threat, the resurrection of Bahamut is still going full tilt, and there's still a myriad of questions left unanswered. Nearly all of the job quests are also very open ended. Where the fuck is Nidhogg? We know he was controlling Estinien but...? There's still more of Erik's research to be done.... the Nymians and Primals aren't neatly explained yet... where's the Arcanist guildmaster and why does he wander so much? How the fuck does he know Ancient Allagan?

Are Garleans descendants of Allag? We know Nael van Darnus was reputed to be a blood descendant of the Allagans, but at the same time the Gigas claim to be as well? What is Behemoth and why has it suddenly come to pass in Coerthas? Where does it come from? Why does Snowcloak glow as if it was aether/crystalline?

What is the relationship between Sharlayan and Garlemald? Was it that the Sharlayans feared the Garlean Empire so much that they abandoned Eorzea or was it was the breaking of Silvertear Falls' seal? Midgardsormr? What are the Twelve? Allag? Primals? Gods? Hydaelyn is ... what? Zodiark is ... what?

It's likely the Odin questline will be expanded upon in the future as it directly involves Urianger. At least, I hope.

edit: fucked up my norse shit

didn't miss it, just saying the focus wasn't really there. the story focus for the primary antogonist was on the mentioned characters and odin was just some causer of chaos, altana was light, promathia was dark, odin is just chaos, etc, which is why they tie him in to everything....which is not really what I want in ffxiv, but would be nice to have something like consecutive fight arena (a la ff7 in the casino place), that is called "Einherjar" where you just go in and fight stuff for as many waves as you can or something. anyway, back to fun factual 14 lores, ignore my stupid rant on what i hope is the back story on odin lol

    "Responsible for" =! "story focus"

Odin drove all of the events in FFXI pretty much. Without Odin, there wouldn't be shit for the Warriors of the Dawn to do in XI-WoTG. Odin is the backer of our antagonists in WotG, without Odin the Shadow Lord nor Lady Lilith would exist and there would be no Crystal War.

I do hope they tie in midgardsormr into something large in the future, it somehow comes back (which is always possible in the ff series), big giant flying snake-dragon fight...a large arena extreme trial, would be fun

Since I've got XI on the brain:

They can't ignore Midgardsormr; that'd be like ignoring the Northlands Expedition. Oh this really important thing happened like 10-15 years ago (or like 30 in XI i think but w/e) BUT WE'RE GONNA SHOW IT TO YOU AND NEVER TALK ABOUT IT AGAIN.

I don't know if we'd fight Midgardsormr, but we'll definitely probably learn more about the Battle of Silvertear as the game progresses. It reeks of Ascian / Allagan involvement.

I wouldn't hold my breath about Midgardsormr/Silvertear being a big point of interest.

For anyone that didn't play 1.0 they probably aren't even aware either exist aside from one of the areas in Mor Dhona being called "North Silvertear".

You'd have to go to youtube to even find the old opening CS that shows the battle.

For the vast majority of the playerbase, the only thing that exists are instance areas. The players who didn't play in 1.0 are reminded of it semifrequently either by paying attention to NPCs/various texts or the Lv15 cutscene where Gaius van Baelsar gives a brief overview of the Battle/Midgardsormr's intervention using actual scenes from the 1.0 opening FMV.

It is a key/pivotal part of the story and while I don't expect 2.3 to herald answers on it, to say they aren't coming is ludicrous. Silvertear is why Mor Dhona is important. Silvertear's importance is likely the reason why the Crystal Tower was built there (it's unlikely to be the other way around).

I don't remember this at all (which means neither do most players).

When they do eventually elaborate on Silvertear/Midgard I don't think I'm really gonna care about it much. Mostly because I want to know what it was originally meant to be, not whatever it is they decide to retcon it into for the 2.0 storyline (which I just really, really don't like overall).

If you ask "most players" they'll tell you some retarded fucking things about the story.

Because the 2.0 story is poorly presented and largely uninteresting.

When the MSQ is 90% irrelevant fetch quests and 10% awful voice acting people aren't going to go through the dialogue with a fine toothed comb trying to find something interesting.

Did you meet the original 1.0 MSQ where the revelation that 90% of it was an Echo didn't come about until after the game went down for the relaunch and direct developer intervention via forums?

I have no idea what you're talking about, if the devs decided to fuck the 1.0 storyline via an out-of-game retcon on the OF that doesn't change the fact that it was much a more interesting and enjoyable experience.

    wat

    Here's what happened:

The original 1.0 presented as-is in the game is horribly disjointed and confusing unless you pay specific attention and realize when you are going in and out of the Echo. "Use the power of the Echo?" appears after Fade to White and meeting Minfilia, but your character freely uses the Echo beforehand. No one (not even you, unless you were keeping mum the year+ XIV was out and the countless people going ???? enthralled you) realized we were going in and out of the Echo. The developers (after the servers shut down) explained that this was in fact using the Echo after something like 20+ pages of discussion on the NA Localization forums about why the story made no goddamn sense.

I took umbrage at you calling 2.0 a disjointed experience when what little experience 1.0 had was literally a well documented case study of "how not to tell a story." If you're calling the 7UE storyline better, it's the same team so idfk what to tell you other than they made 7UE with the expectation everyone was at/near cap and made 2.0 MSQ for leveling.

I mean, yeah sure, the 1.0 story is pretty gnarly when you realize half the time you're in the past but the game made little to no effort to tell you this. There's a sound effect and a musical cue that could (and did) go largely unnoticed.

I don't remember being particularly confused about when you were in and out of the echo....sometimes it was subtle and you only realized it after the fact, but that just made it even more interesting really.

They didn't spell out "ENTERING ECHO......EXITING ECHO" but if you payed attention to what people were talking about and what was going on it was generally quite apparent.

When you're suddenly seeing characters years younger and experiencing past events described by NPCs.....2 and 2.

You're either not remembering everything or are not aware what huge part of story was happening in echo.
