One theme has definitely been concurrent with the end of every patch so far has been the unrest in U'dah and Teledji Adeledji's involvement every step of the way from plotting the Revolution in 2.2, to the great interest in Omega in 2.3, and to prolonging the war with the Garleans via Roille in 2.4 revealed towards the end of the patch. The chalice from the picture for 2.5 gives me a very Ul'dah feel as well, so, "Before the Fall," could actually mean the fall of Ul'dah into chaos, which Nanamo states will happen when she announces her dissolving of the Syndicate and the monarchy. I don't think this will be the major event to close out 2.x however.

I'm actually wondering if the Frontlines rule changes in 2.5 will tie into this. We know that Teledji Adeledji is after Omega which is buried in the Cartenau Flats, and Yoshi-P has mentioned that there will be new PvE objectives in Frontlines. Would be kind of cool if Omega featured in both Frontlines and the new mystery trial I wonder if the acquisition of Omega will lead to the fall of Ul'Dah and consequently the entire Eorzean Alliance... at least as a cliff-hanger before the expansion. Then perhaps the reawakening of Midgardsormr and the Dravanian (and maybe Dalamud's Mericidians as well?) attack on Ishgard will force the Alliance back together in 3.0.

I don't think this is a big enough thing to spoiler but it isn't 100% confirmed until you beat T13 so continue reading at your own risk: basically when you defeat Bahamut the Coils top functioning, which means life support for the Meracydians is cut off and they all die.
Well, I guess that's just what Alisaie assumes would happen, but man I really hope it's true.

Then again I hoped Darnus and Louisoix stayed dead.

I think Coil's story is going to stay on its own and not mess with the Main Scenario at all (for now at least). Maybe with the second expansion they could link something to it, I doubt they're never going to touch some of those characters again.

Looking forward to this as well. Something else that would be cool to see would be a library dungeon in the remnants of Sharlayan/Isle of Val. The end boss could be a book demon like Page 64 from FFV or Tantarian from FFIX.

I recall Minfilia mentions having a friend named Krile over there. She hasn't heard from said friend in a while IIRC. I could see them doing something pertaining to her at some point in 3.0 since it involves Dravania, which if I remember right, is where Sharlayan is.

Minfilia is friends with Krile; Krile leads(?) the Students of Baldesion. The Students of Baldesion were headquartered on an island, the Island of Val in particular. Sharlayan is an island in the northern seas iirc. Sharlayan is also the name of the island-nation's colony in northwest Eorzea, in Dravania. Eorzean Sharlayan was abandoned after the Fall of Ala Mhigo and the Garleans had no intent to parley. Most of Sharlayan wrote Eorzea off because Garlemald had never failed to eventually conquer who they invaded and the colonists rejoined the "main" island-city-state of Sharlayan. Coincidentally, their evacuation of Eorzea took place in the same year of the Battle of Silvertear Skies. The only Sharlayans who stayed behind in Eorzea were the Circle of Knowing. The Leveilleur twin's father holds a high ranking position in the Sharlayan government and disagreed with his father (Louisoix's) desire to help/save Eorzea.

The Island of Val has disappeared, and Krile is comatose. I don't remember hearing about any other survivors. The aetheric disturbance caused by the island's disappearance is similar to one caused by Ultima.

And for fun fact, "Val" is another named used for the "Bal" castle in FF5. Galuf Baldesion was the ruler of the kingdom of Val/Bal. He had a granddaughter named Krile. Krile/Galuf were playable characters in FF5. Gilgamesh and Omega debuted in FF5. Shinryu.

I've been trying to think what the Rejoining could be and I keep going back to FF9. This from the FF wiki:

Thousands of years ago Terra attempted to fuse with Gaia but it ended with disaster and Terra shifted to the inside of the planet of Gaia while many Terran landmarks appeared on Gaia, such as Terra's magical tree of Iifa, Oeilvert, and Mount Gulug. Terrans tasked the android Garland, the old man who annihilated Alexandria and whom Kuja wishes to vanquish to become the overlord of Terra and Gaia both, with restoring Terra to its former glory before entering a deep rest. Garland crafted the Genomes to be used as vessels for the Terran souls when the time would be right for Terra to assimilate Gaia whose crystal has been deprived of its natural soul cycle by the Iifa Tree for thousands of years. Kuja was one of Garland's creations whom he sent to Gaia to incite war to amplify the rate the souls would attempt to return to the crystal, but Kuja's will was strong and he rebelled against his creator, knowing that if Garland's plans were to succeed he would no longer need Kuja and make him into a regular Genome.

Mysterious being sent to our planet to incite war to amplify the rate of souls returning to the crystal, assimilation of planets to restore their true form... It seems pretty similar to me. Meh, probably obvious to a lot of people, but I'm curious what else we have in FFXIV lore that points in this direction? I doubt that they would use another planet for this in FFXIV because of how similar it would be to the Dalamud story, but I'm guessing it's some sort of rejoining with the void. I mean I know the void is pretty much involved in everything, but is there anything besides the Ascians that hints at a realm or plane that used to be a part of our current one? Anyway, makes me want to go back and read up on FFIX lore again.

EDIT: I realize that these themes are pretty common in the FF series, but...

The party awakes on the Hill of Despair, finding themselves in the presence of Necron, a deity-like being roused by Kuja's nihilism that arises to deny all existence by returning the world to the Zero World, a world without a Crystal, as he sees the suffering of living beings arising from their fear of death.

Ascians = Genomes
Zodiark = Necron
Elidibus = Skynet...?

I really don't see how those things are very similar to FFXIV at all apart from the word 'rejoining'. Necron in particular had absolutely nothing to do with Terra/Garland and Kuja saved the party from him.

The void rejoining Hydaelyn is a fair guess, though. Perhaps it was somehow banished beforehand considering the Ascians talk about returning things to the way they were ever since the start of 2.0.

Well, the Ascians are trying to stir up chaos and war in order to set the stage for the rejoining. I could be wrong, but the way I remember it the Ascians want to force the denizens of Eorzea into summoning their primals so as to drain the land of aether. Lahabrea mentions quite frequently how the Ascian's goal is to bring about the "crystal's demise," which made me draw the link to FF9 and "the Zero World, a world without a Crystal." Elidibus seems less evil than the other Ascians, but he's not exactly a friend... It makes me wonder if he thinks the Ascians are just doing what's best for us.

In other words, the Ascians are inciting war so as to disrupt the flow of aether and bring about a world with no crystal allowing for the rejoining of the void with our plane of existence so that Zodiark can annihilate all life to save us from ourselves. Garland used the genomes to incite war in an effort to disrupt the flow of souls and bring about a rejoining of Terra and Gaia which lead to the appearance of Necron who aimed to annihilate all life to safe us from our fear of death. Maybe a bit of a stretch, but this is the connection I saw. The only difference is that Necron arose as a direct consequence of Kuja and Garland's actions without them even knowing he existed; the Ascians are actively summoning Zodiark.

EDIT: I forgot to include the fact that Kuja essentially teaches Queen Brahne how to extract and summon the various eidolons in order to fuel her wars. This is much the same as how the Ascians help the beast tribes summon their primals.

I was just looking back through fan fest screenshots of Ishgard and noticed this:



The statue clearly has Au Ra horns. Not sure if this has been pointed out before or not. I mean, we sort of knew the relationship between the dragons and Ishgard was complicated, what with the heretics and Saint Shiva and all... but having a statue of a member of the half-Elezen/half-Dragon race right in the middle of the city seems weird to me, especially given the fact that Ishgardians supposedly shun outsiders and half-breeds, let alone those that are descended from the dragons themselves. Do we know anything about this that I might have missed?
