I mean, Tupsimati was "destroyed" at the Battle of Carteneau! But, afaik, the bit we used to slay Nabriales still exists. We're seen holding it immediately after killing him, but it disappears from our hands by the time the Scions arrive. (Specifically we're left holding it at the end of CS-5 from An Uninvited Ascian and we're not at the start of CS-6).

    Spoiler: show
when would Nanamo and Tataru have met to arrange this switch, assuming it wasn't just spontaneous? It seems really weird that Nanamo would be able to meet pretty much anyone without someone (handmaiden at least) knowing who she met. And handmaiden looks in on it with Lolorito so either Lolorito arranged this (seems unlikely given his "look at me I'm a villain" poses) or... idk.

It would also be pretty douche-y (and somewhat out of character) of Nanamo to just be ok with someone dying (or if pearls are poison-immunity, high risk of death besides) on her behalf.

Also I dunno how good Tataru would have been at emulating Nanamo's speech to the point where people would believe the double, unless you can say "glamour magic" to that too.

Tataru wanted to do something since all she was good at was book keeping, this was her moment to shine. Fuck man. Is it 3.0 yet, will we find out then or how long do we need to wait.

I'm not saying that I want the new jobs gated, I really don't care. I was saying that if a new player were to be turned off of an entire game because he had to put in a few weeks of work to get to the new jobs, then yes, THAT is retarded. Using the 1.0 > 2.0 example is weak, they aren't completely scrapping ARR and basically starting over with Heavensward.

Why is it retarded when every other job/class is immediately available, even NIN? Locking out stuff like endgame raids and such behind the storyline is one thing, its endgame content... Jobs aren't.
I was merely using the XI reference because it was already in the thread. I agree that XIV is extremely accessible to the new player, and it offers a range of difficulty and content to keep its diverse player base happy (well, for the most part anyway). Again, I am not an advocate of gating the new jobs, just sick of the incessant whining of entitled people that think they deserve everything right now.

I think we both know that I wasn't referring to capping COR in the game's current state, 9 years after the job was released.

    Back on topic:

    Spoiler: show
Did I miss something with the Scions? Saw earlier in the thread that they might have been whisked away by Hydaelyn or something similar ... maybe something like what happened with Louisiox? Or is it just one big cliffhanger until Heavensward? I do find it hard to believe that we (the Adventurer), after all the shit we have defeated/bested/destroyed that we couldn't take on the Crystal Braves/Brass Blades and just manhandle them. Guess it's all "for the good of the story", etc.

Right before Minfillia runs off she mentions something about Hydaelyn talking to her and a blue streak goes across the screen which she then follows I believe. There's some NPC dialogue that points to the Scions having been arrested or something though too I think, though I guess that could just refer to the other members like the that Roe and Elezen.

I got the distinct feeling that the handmaiden is a double agent. She seems to be watching Lolorito from the shadows at the end. If she was in cahoots with all Monetarists then why does he seem suspicious/afraid of her watching him? (Unless he is a better guy than we think and that's why she is keeping an eye on him, to make sure he doesn't turn around and undo the Monetarists' victory in a fit of regret).

But rather I think she might have pretended to work with the Monetarists while actually watching out for Nanamo the whole time. That would have allowed Nanamo to switch with Tataru with no problems. She could be the Snape of FFXIV :D
Sometimes you have to let your enemies believe they've gotten away with something to make them drop their guard so you can take them down for good. I think that's what happened here and why Nanamo had to let it look like she died even if she realized what would happen the whole time.

    Lolorito:
    Spoiler: show
He's clearly seen sneering after being informed that everything is going to plan which makes me wonder if he's an unwilling antagonist in these events. I may be reaching here, but given the structure of Ul'dah has made it easy for Garlean infiltration, maybe he's struck a deal with the Garleans pending an incoming invasion? By removing the Scions for the Garleans, he may have potentially saved Ul'dah citizens lives in the long run (or just his own life). Again, I'm speculating here, but I don't think it's too big a reach.

    Riol:
    Spoiler: show
This guy has street smarts as well as being a cut above the standard NPC adventurer. He's persistently played his cards close to his chest and has correctly identified who he can and can't trust within the Braves all along. As our man on the inside I'm really hoping that he has a role to play later on. Though I worry that his remark that he'd bet his right eye is foreshadowing him being caught for espionage.

Expecting to have the same unabated access to the new jobs and content as a veteran player that has been around since beta is pretty retarded in itself. New people can have a 60 Dark/Machinist/Astrologian in about 4-5 weeks .... tell me you could start from scratch and have a capped COR in that amount of time (ToAU just as an example). No way.
COR in 4-5 weeks? Of course not, this is FFXI we're talking about. However, it would be no more difficult nor time consuming than any other advanced job:

    1. Level something to 30.
    2. Farm all 6 subjob items for ToAU access quest.
    3. Do easy COR quest.
    4. Go level.

is all that is said. The only direct reference to the Scions I managed to find was:

E-Sumi-Yan: The Elder Seedseer has told me of the treachery that took place in Ul'dah. Though I will continue to question them, the elementals seem blind to the whereabouts of the missing Scions...

I doubt Nanamo told some people about a plan to fake her death but didn't let Raubahn know. She would have known he'd do something drastic and possibly get himself killed.

There's another reference in Mor Dhona along the lines of "I'm glad you escaped, I hope the others did as well", which to me lends to them all having survived

Rewatching that new Heavensward trailer with Raubahn sporting a wicked post-depression beard in prison makes me wonder if he'll be wearing that from here on out. Also that stubby arm looks pretty silly.

    Model change, here we come?

You definitely could get COR to 75 that quickly because I did it. It took me 2-3 weeks and I was nowhere near the fastest. COR is a bad example though because it's a buffing job so wasn't sat around waiting on invites.

If it was your first 75 then it wasn't happening becase iirc they didn't implement the Maat equivalent (Qultada I think) at release. So you were reliant on anothe rjob to break the level cap.

You didn't start the game the day COR came out, so thats not really relevant is it? That conversation was about new players starting in Heavensward.

It's all relative. The point was to show the relation between starting a new character post HEAVENSWARD and being lvl 60 in a new job vs starting a new character in FFXI post ToAU and reaching level 75. It should take a bit more time to do COR in FFXI than it would starting a new job in ARR and reaching the requisite MSQ to get into Ishgard in HEAVENSWARD to start a new class. You can burn through quest dialogue and skip cutscenes if you were looking for speed in FFXIV, and on top of that, every quest gives exp for the first job.

tl;dr: It takes a little bit longer to level a support class to 75 in FFXI than it takes to level a class to 50 and a new class from 30-60 in FFXIV.

I'm pretty sure I'm agreeing with you lol. The person I replied to was 75 in another job before ToAU was released as far as I know.

I did have a 75 but the amount of things I skipped by having a 75 was trivial. Getting a job to 30 and level caps were essentially the only things I skipped. I didn't have any of the relative skills or subjobs levelled so I still had to do that.

The cockblock for COR 75 if you had just started was the fact it did not have a final level cap implemented. All the important dice were cheap and NPC buyable so a new player wouldn't have even run into gil issues there. It wasn't like you had to go through all the existing main storyline to get to ToAU.

Realistically no new player was going to start and try bumrush COR to 75 as quickly as possible but the potential to do it in only a few weeks was definitely there. Well to get it to 70 anyway.

IDK, I think its no secret how close Nanamo and Raubahn were, if he knew the death was fake he might have reacted far less harshly to the news, tipping them off it was fake. Leaving him out of the loop, while it may hurt him, would mean his reaction would be genuine, and as the closest person to Nanamo, if his reaction to her death is genuine and as hogshit as he went, it would close most/all doubts. So i could see how he could have been left out.

Still, I think she's kicked the bucket. If they bring her back I don't think it'll be through fake-death.

So our suspicions were confirmed yesterday during the lore panel:

Aura are not related to Dragons. Their motif are demons.

    Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...d_other_stuff/
The Au Ra aren't really dragons, which means Ishgard shouldn't necessarily have a problem with them.

If they borrow the dragon-demon opposition theme from XI I could see that explaining a heavy presence in Ishgard.

But again that's assuming the nature and origins of the Au Ra will be significant to the story to begin with, it would be strange if they weren't but none of the details regarding any of the other races have ever been terribly relevant.
