Is Sharlayan being on the world map just an anachronism from 1.0 when (I assume) it was planned to be in Eorzea?
The problem is that they have already done the Lahabrea/Thancred thing. Well I guess it's not so much a problem, just that it didn't come up at the time and Lahabrea is the type of smug snake who would at least reference him and Thancred being alike.
They could pull the Lillisette/Lilith card. The WoD isn't an alternate you, it's a future you. Maybe after losing the light again / people dying and you being powerless to stop it.
I vote we stop this alternate timeline/universe discussion immediately before we start giving the devs (bad) ideas.
Time travel and multiple dimensions is bottom-of-the-barrel storytelling unless it's central to the entire universe.
I figured he was in a different spot as well and seemed to get away without being apprehended in Ul'Dah. Maybe he knew and tried to stop it but was too late, and left for Ishgard.
lateish reply but the current theory is it's this

i do see the resemblence
But when we go there it's made pretty clear that the place in Dravania was a settlement established by the Sharlayan, then abandoned.
So a silly comment on State of the Realm got me thinking it would actually be pretty fun:
a primal summoned by the Floating Continent nodes (the Gillys)
The Sharlayans originated in an island far north of Aldenard, well outside of any maps. We don't know exactly when, but they were already well-known as a seat of learning and history by the second century of the Sixth Astral Era, three centuries before the founding of Ishguard. Much more recently, in the 1300s of the Sixth Astral Era, they later created a colony in northwestern Dravania, which became powerful enough over the next century to be recognized as a pseudo fifth city-state.
This colony was abandoned soon after the fall of Ala Mhigo somewhere around 1560, fifteen years before Current Time, when it became obvious that the Sharlayan policy of diplomacy and neutrality wasn't going to viable under Garlean attack. A few members remained and became the Circle of Knowing.
((Given Doma, I'm not sure how well retreat will work for the Sharlayans in the long run.))
The abandonment of Eorzea-Sharlayan was mentioned in 1.0 so it's not what I'd call a retcon. (Pre-Yoshida 1.0 too)
I'm confused about the idea of it being an anachronism though since everything gattsuru is correct.
Pretty sure that idea is already well-entrenched in their heads. Lahabrea, in the CS before the fight at the end of Aertherochemical Research Facility, brought up the (re)joining again: "Through the joining, the world shall become whole again. Then all shall be as once it was - as it should ever have remained."
Rocl had a post back on page 55 that detailed some of the existing connections between FFV and FFXIV, including the Isle of Val. We know the researchers at the Isle of Val were looking into the rejoining before they mysteriously disappeared. FFV's plot involved a world that had been split into two being reunited as a single world, so that the game's villain could access something that couldn't be reached while the two halves were separate.
Random thought.
In Tactics Elidibus is the secret 13th member. In XIV we have The Twelve. What if Elidibus is the secret 13th? Possibly through him and Hydaelyn joining. Maybe even the Warrior of Light and the Warrior of Dark combined make the 13th and they are Hydaelyn/Elidibus's respective champions.
"What... Who are you..." - The motherfucking 13th, the champion of The Twelve
I wouldn't be surprised if the new Crystal Tower-equivalent starts in Azys Lla involving the Triad then involves the Lunar Whale in part two, and finally takes us to the Lunar surface in the third part.
Also, my guess for 4.0 is Ala Mihgo. They've been laying the grounds for the effort to take back Ala Mihgo for a while now and there's plenty of concept art for the city already. They could add Gyr Abania and Xelphatol as the major regions. Who knows, since it's further to the east they might be able to work Blue Mage into the Ala Mihgan culture... and maybe some Doman Samurais made it over as wellThat could also set us up for Garlemald in 5.0 before they need to bring in new enemies and locations in 6.0 onwards.
That is Sharlayan though. The colony and the country share the same name: Sharlayan. Eorzean-Sharlayan colony is in Dravania, known as Sharlayan. Capital Sharlayan in the Northern Islands, known as Sharlayan.
Nald'thal is already worshiped as two separate gods most of the time (Nald and Thal) so it'd technically be the 14th. Vaguely recall the Scions saying in 1.0 (when they were the Circle of Knowing) "everyone calls them the Twelve but you know there's Thirteen!"In Tactics Elidibus is the secret 13th member. In XIV we have The Twelve. What if Elidibus is the secret 13th? Possibly through him and Hydaelyn joining. Maybe even the Warrior of Light and the Warrior of Dark combined make the 13th and they are Hydaelyn/Elidibus's respective champions.

If they were treated as 2 seperate entities that would upset the balance of Astral/Umbral though! >_>
I remember seeing this rather more recently as I never played 1.0. Can't remember where though. Maybe the opening Gridania CS for new character? Either way, I definitely saw this mentioned recently ingame.
Noob questions,2nd is probably answered in coil storyline which I've been too lazy to do and if so just ignore:
Why did the Sharlayans abandon the Dravanian settlement?
What caused Allagan civilization to fall?
As far as Au ra being dropped in, they made such a big deal about Yugiri being "different" and that's why she had to hide her features, but now everyone's a damn Au ra. I understand why it had to be done, adding an entire new race that wasn't there before can't be easy to explain away, but I feel like they could have offered SOME kind of explanation at least. I guess she doesn't hide herself now, working together with the Warrior of Light so word must have got around about the Au ra and now less of them are hiding? lol
I do hope one expansion is going to Doman lands. I'm sure we'll get more Au ra lore than we can handle at that point.
