Easily the low point of the expansion. Literary whiskeydick.
Also, the Crystal Tower conclusion now makes even less sense. The whole reason G'raha sealed himself away was to prevent people from abusing Allagan tech yet now we have a whole archipelago of even worse Allagan shit than what was in Syrcus floating around. Guess he wanted a catnap.
Cid and co. don't mention even mention CT at all during Heavensward which would have been a neat touch for those who actually bothered to do it.
I thought the end of the story made it clear that future 3.x updates were going to deal with the all of that.
I didn't care, mostly because I never really cared about the shit going on in Ul'dah.
There was a reason I started in Limsa and joined the Maelstrom.
This one is a little understandable since Raubahn was hiding his arm under his cape, so I don't mind it too much. The problem I have is for Nanamo it's BAU. She chalked up everything that happened to her as a dream, even though she had a death-like experience. She's still going to step down as sultana and now the syndicate is totally cool with that. Like... when was this the case? Obviously Teledji wasn't going to have that, and I guess Lolorito doesn't care because he deep pockets anyway. But, why didn't Nanamo try to ask questions? Raubahn's arm is one thing, but she should've noticed how long she's been in a coma.
I think the worst part about it all is, everyone is cool with the outcome. Even Alphinaud is like "Welp, that settles that, back to Ishgard lol." This is like a kick in the dick to me. Not only that there was no adversity within the Syndicate, but everything that happened in 2.55, as it was your entire reason to going to Ishgard in the first place, became effectively null and void. Can't someone be suspicious on how too easy everything fell into place?
Oh, and Lolorito and Dewlala have the worst voices ever. My ears were dying.
I thought they mentioned in a way that in the past they broken barriers with crystals/aether etc referring to CT's entrance.
pretty sure Garuda's barrier is explicitly mentioned in the cutscene you're referring to
The largest discrepency with the 2.55 resolution is where the fuck are Yda and monocle dude? Literally outside the banquet area so with how everything unfolded they are either captured by the brass blades so we should know their location or they escape through the middle of Ul'dah and some fucker has to see them. But lolnope missing without anyone knowing anything at all. It's not like the others who were out of sight / in the collapse
Not gonna lie, I liked that Merlwyb apologized/recognized her lapse in character during the feast when she basically peaced out on Raubahn.
The way the story spins it, only Teledji really had it out for the Sultana/Raubahn. Lolorito is a money grubbing douche but he's also pragmatic and really doesn't care which way the nation goes so long as he's making bank. Thanks to Raubahn eliminating his primary competitor, he's picking up much of Teledji's holdings. He's also concerned about Garlemald so it's in his best interest to quell the unrest. This one is a little understandable since Raubahn was hiding his arm under his cape, so I don't mind it too much. (Nanamo is still clueless as ever. Why did we take her out of the fridge again?)
Dewlala, the Mineral Concern and Godbert aren't as antagonistic characters and don't really factor in much. Honestly, I didn't even remember who Dewlala was at first. Godbert being on the Syndicate is also giant joke but hey, I'm not going to question it. He's a job creator or something.
It' was an incredibly lame way to wrap things up by essentially saying "yeah, Illberd went rogue, sorry 'bout that." then Lolorito essentially saying to call it a blank ledger after everything that happened with the Braves. Not only does it kill any tension that was building up but the game dismissed a major plot point as being the equivalent of that Titan cheese sandwich arc and ruining Raubahn's character development in one fell swoop.
*groan*
If anything, Heavensward has shaken my faith that SE is willing to commit to a serious plotline when simple things like killing off useless/redundant characters is going to be an issue for them, they aren't going to bother linking the raid content to the main scenario and walk back major plotlines. If this is supposed to be the 'story MMO' then I at least expect these things to factor in, especially when SE has been paying attention to detail as they have.
Hauchefant was a nice touch because dude literally was your biggest fan (Conrad Verner!) and it makes sense that he'd try to save you from the Heaven's Ward. It also will inspire his brothers to stop being shitty people but killing Hauchefant wasn't ballsy because he had a complete arc. Ysayle was bungled and she had been built up to be this big figure in 2.4. I thought she'd at least become a new Scion or something.
But nope. They had her killed off in a lame fashion and she was interesting which is more than I can say about the Scions.
I so wanted Ysayle to join the scions. Also, I wanted a love story with her and Estinian
Ysayle's death pretty much confirms that SE doesn't want to kill off it's main cast, but is more than willing to give everyone else heroic departures. Moen was pretty much the same way and she barely had time to establish character development. But if one suggests Thancred gets the axe their writers jumps through hoops to make sure that doesn't happen.
Now I'm not begging for things to be like GoT, but I do wish if SE is going to take a dark path in the story then they should commit to it. The resolution for 2.55 really pissed me off because with the way they went about it, the plotline might as well never have happened. You didn't do anything except told Ilberd to fuck off. Everything else miraculously falls into place with the only thing that was actually lost was Raubahn's arm. I can't really see anyone being satisfied with HW's plot at the moment, though that's just me.
Yugiri's voice is decent to me. It's better than the vast majority of the Lalafells.
Honestly, I could envision the end of HW's 3.X storyline to have us slay Estinian and then we get a scene with his spirit and Ysayle's leaving together ala Aerith/Zack in Advent Children.
Between Moen and Hauch I think it's safe to say that any minor character with unique personality that is quickly endeared to us is only there to be killed without losing any of the main cast.
I honestly do not think the Ilberd storyline is done. Especially given his bitter parting shot which was largely accurate even if those people are your friends.
I think I'm more peeved at the resolution because a bitter, angry Raubahn seeking revenge is a compelling story that people wanted to see yet it was just handwaved away.
To me it just seems the 2.55 ending was A. Them wanting to end on a cliffhanger to build up hype and B. They wanted a convenient way of writing out the majority of the 2.0 cast whilst we gallivanted around Ishgard solving all their problems.
I haven't gotten that far into the story but Hauch dying is super annoying to me. He's the only guy in the entire world that actually physically gave a shit about you as a person and not because you're Jesus Christ, which is less than what I can say about the Scions.
Edit: I'm reminded, do we have any idea what happened to Hoary and Coultenet?
