how many of them do we know of.. 5? assuming there were no wyrms before Mid came along..

Nidhogg, Ratatoskr, Hraesvelgr, Tiamat and Bahamut?
That'd leave 2 more, altho i think they did mention they settled in Hydaelyn in general instead of just Eorzea

Tiamat and Bahamut settled in Meracydia, Tiamat mentions it in the same scene.

He's not. He was referenced as one of Nidhogg's champions in the quests but I can't find any databases/websites that still have quest dialog.

Now I've harbored suspicions about Carvallain's past for some time with a loose trail of breadcrumbs left about. Carrilaut, a knight stationed at the Observatorium and in service to House Durendaire (as they guard said Observatorium) mentions that the heir House Durendaire was lost at sea, attacked by corsairs.

Carvallain himself mentions "if my family hadn't been murdered at sea, I'd have no doubt followed my fortune-telling father into a life of divination." Woah woah woah now, if you've done the Astrologian quests you know you pay a visit to Carvallain. He mentions his fortune-telling father and we know that's Sharlayan Astrology in a very boiled down form.

So right now, you're probably going "okay Rocl but what does this MEAN? I'm sure people die on the high seas of Hydaelyn all the time! Seems pretty circumstanial" Well, I always entertained that Carvallain might be the lost heir of Durendaire. His complaints of a "fortune-telling father" complicate that a bit as we know Ishgardians aren't very accepting of Sharlayan Astrology but it could be Ishgardian Astrology too though since the idea of an Ishgardian practicing Sharlayan Astrology undoubtedly would've come up with Jannequinard so far. (Speaking of which, Jannequinard is unusually dark for an Ishgardian elezen and Carvallain's hue is very similar as are their hair and eye colours)

Why didn't Jannequinard recognize him? Jannequinard isn't the most observant person (see Rufin-Levava) additionally Jannequinard was in Sharlayan when the Durendaire heir was lost at see (both events match up to roughly 20 years ago). So there's definitely probably some sort of timing there that can lead to a plausible handwave.

Now, the most damning evidence requires a little bit in the wayback machine:
When choosing a weapon, there are those who would turn their noses up at the axe, believing it too brutish for their delicate sensibilities. Pah! I say to them, I've never known a cloven head to complain.

-Carvallain de Gorgagne, Captain of the Misery, and leader of the Kraken's Arms
The above text is referenced in ye olde 1.0 promotional materials from before launch. I'm sure something there should strike a chord within anyone who got to about Lv52 in the Heavensward Main Scenario. Gorgagne. Gorgagne Mills' Vista Record goes on to say "Ser Gorgagne was a proud knight and bannerman of House Durendaire, until the fateful day when the heir of that house vanished from his sight while under his care, never to be seen again."

We now have a more concrete tie between Carvallain and Ishgard. If he's not the Heir of Durendaire, he's certainly at the very least the son of a man sworn to them. Perhaps he picked up the name from his steward (as Ser Gorgane is said to hang up his blade so he might've not exactly been an astrologian, but that could be metaphorical) Strengthening this tie is that during the Culinarian quests we learn that Carvallain has a softspot for Ishgardian cuisine and considers the Chef of House Durendaire the foremost authority on it. Another breadcrumb for the trail, which admittedly doesn't lead to a direct conclusion but definitely brings us close.

The point is I haven't finished Culinarian or Astrologian quests yet, but all of this information I needed to put down somewhere and see if everyone thought I was as crazy as I feel.

Before we met him, for sure. He was presented to us as Lord Commander when he first appeared in... 2.4, was it?

Well I'm trying to figure out if the Lord Commander that perished in Dusk Vigil following the calamity was the one immediately before Aymeric, or if there were people between.

I don't think we're given specifics regarding this. It must've been fairly recently though, within the last two decades I'd wager.

Not certain they're the same position (Lord Commander of the Temple Knights vs Lord Commander of Dusk Vigil) though I only read the Dusk Vigil journals once.

"Business with Ser Yuhelmeric, you say? So the forestborn send a mercenary adventurer to trade words with the lord commander of House Durendaire's knights? <spit>" - Into the Dark (Twin Adder Branch; Patch 1.18)
So Lord Commander isn't a title related only to the Temple Knights. Myth busted.

Do we know the lyrics to the Heavensward theme? The one that plays in the opening CS.

Most of the first part is perfectly audible but I can't make out the second and third lines of the opening for dick or any of the male voices in the second part (one of the words sounds like "witness" but that's all I got).

    Beneath the gazing stars
    ?????????????????????????????
    ?????????????????????????????
    Bound fast unto our feet
    One path, one burden great
Yet ever do our aching souls point heavensward, ever rings out our song
Yes ever do our aching souls point heavensward, as they've done for so long

    Beneath the gazing stars
    Vales deep and forests dark
Betrayed by loyal hands, her wrath stirred
    Bound fast unto our fate
    One path, one burden great
Yet ever do our aching souls point heavensward and ever rings out our song
Yes ever do our aching souls point heavensward as they've done for so long
It's potentially veils instead of vales

The Dravanian there is jumbled from the teaser too but it should roughly be
    Rhos an kyn
    Dys ah sohm in
    Mah morn narr
    Sah djahs afah an
    My brothers wake
    Our slumber disturbed
    The saviors must perish
    Vengeance will be ours

Oh, I don't know why this didn't fully process. Your problem understanding the choir part is probably because it's in a different language. Either Dravanian or Latin depending, I think

Ah, I thought it might have been English cause the second thing they say does sound an awful lot like "witness", figured the rest was just getting drowned out and/or oddly accented.

It was basically just merged into Sastasha.

The clams and floating embers there came from the 1.0 Shposhae, as did the Coeurl boss.

Actually the Couerl boss from Shposhae ended up in the Simurgh is the Word FATE. (Both are called the Lone Coeurl, and Simurgh ends up killing it in the FATE)

It's pretty difficult for me to say Satasha is canonically/geographically Shposhae since Satasha has all of the Mistbeard Cove landmarks in it, but there's no other explanation of where Shposhae went.

Thematically they're very similar, esp with the Clams n shit mechanically, but Cassiopeia Hollow also had a similar "theme" with the coral and shit.
