Geographically, I would say that Shposhae is that cave to the north-east right as you exit Limsa into Lower La Noscea (the cave with the Raw Ruby unspoiled mining point). There's that stream with all the frogs that leads to a cave that just kinda stops part-way in. I assume it caved in when the Calamity hit. That would line it up pretty well to where it was in 1.0.

Sastasha is almost certainly their attempt at fleshing out one of the more elaborate caves to the North-West of Limsa back in 1.0. In there, there were pirates and slimes and ended at some underground docks. Edit: In 1.0 it was called Mistbeard Cove.

    That'd be Mistbeard Cove.

Yeah, the cave works, Shposhae should have to be somewhere in Lower La Noscea.

Being that I'm kinda a lore nut and like knowing the details, I'm kinda wondering how MCN's guns work. All I'm aware of is that the Aetherotransformer (the box on your hip) "Uses aether from your body, transforming it into lightning energy to power your arsenal." I take it it also holds the pods your turrets are stored in as well as the Gauss Barrel, Granado and Wildfire grenades, and the Ricochet frag in some sort of hammer space. But the guns are kinda shown to be flintlocks with the exception of the two Revolvers, the Ironworks gun, and the Kunitomo which is clearly shown to be a matchlock despite it's namesake being an air rifle. [Source]

I'd assume, much like in the real world ammunition is not universal and these are obviously cosmo-guns (a term for guns in movies, games, etc. that never need to be reloaded) but I'm curious what the dev's answers would be if they had to explain.

I'm guessing there are 'magic' guns like the Ironworks Repeater that probably fires Ceruleum-powered blasts, Gjallarhorn that probably fires aether blasts from the dragon eyes that appear to be embedded in the gun. Given the fantasy theme, those would be easy to explain in-universe but the carbines and musketoons that clearly have flintlock or percussion mechanisms...you mean to tell me that Machinists really can load powder and lead in 2.41 seconds, re-aim, fire, and repeat? >.>

Little things like this pique my curiosity while I simply accept that AST has a floating star globe. Though I admit, I was also quite curious as to what is written in the ACN books. I take it it's spells, summoning incantations, and knowledge on plagues and such for SCH.

I don't see why the explanation would need to be any different than why quivers are infinite.

"yea you stock up a lot of [ammo/arrows/grenades] when you're in town"

It's not really where does the ammo come from. We see a BRD pull an arrow and nock it prior to firing. The question is, how do we load them so fast? Unless those little flick motions between shots ARE us reloading, though that'd mean that they are cartridge guns in some sense.

EDIT: Technically, since it's a world of aether and magic, we could also assume MCN projectiles are propelled by aether rather than powder. Though I'd say the Lominsan pistols are powder guns.

We know, vaguely, what Arcanist grimoires contain:
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...imoires-Galore

The important part of the book is the ink, funnily enough, the ink arranged in such a certain manner for ACN/SMN and its superior aether conductivity is what gives Arcanist-jobs their PUNCH.

    tl;dr

ACN magic shapes because math and ink
SMN summoning rituals because ink and drawings
SCH stratagems and probably some magic shapes

    I missed that. Nice!

I used to believe that primal weapons were basically what was left of a primal after it's defeat/death but it was pretty much stated that primals leave no remains. Kinda wish they'd release an FFXIV Ultimania.

EDIT: Given what we are told about MCN's Aetherotransformer, I'd assume the Gauss Barrel doesn't make you "cast" your shots, more accurately, you're channeling aether into the Gauss Barrel to charge it prior to firing for a 30% boost. BRD probably channels aether naturally into their arrows for the same boost.

    Spoiler: show
MCN have to use a machine to do this as MCN is basically the commoner made dragon slayer, they are quickly taught, unlike the Temple Knights and Dragoons who have honed their skills with the sword and lance.

Everytime I read 1.0 lore, I get sad knowing we're probably never going to get closure for some of the stories, especially since even within 1.0, you'd have to play multiple characters to see the lore.

All crafted MCH weapons used Black Firesand, a new crafting material made by ALC only for MCH weapons, and there were earlier references to firesand as a commonly-used propellant and explosive before MCH were released as a class. Even the Primal crafted weapons use it.

You do look to pick something out of your right pocket when firing autoattacks or Split Shots. You only reload from your left hand with the Reload and Quick(er) Reload animation. 2.5 seconds would be much faster than most normal person could reload a flintlock pistol or even revolver, but it's well within expert speed for revolvers and pretty similar to how people reload magazines or clips, and there are theoretical designs that'd make sense in a world where conventional ammunition weren't a thing.

Interestingly, Slug and Clean Shot just recock the hammer, without any 'reload' animation. This might represent black firesand burning incompletely under normal conditions, and then being reignited by more aether later.

I haven't touched my ALC or BSM since Heavensward came out so I missed that. Even in XI, Firesand was used in crafting ammo, I think. I'll have to watch animations more closely at some point.

I have the Pre-Imperial Garlean Revolver glamoured over my current Kunitomo Kai. I like the design of it, like a Colt "Buntline Special."

EDIT: Auto-attacks and a few skills have a "flick" motion as if they are being recocked like a lever-pistol. Slug Shot, Grenado Shot and Gauss Round have a motion that looks like a right-handed person using a left-handed flintlock and pulling the hammer back with Leg Graze having a similar motion. Heartbreak actually DOES seem to have a reloading motion like reloading a single-shot or something.

I wouldn't discount the flintlock hammer being used as a stylistic choice for a new function, rather than for the holding of an actual ignition cap. A throw-back to an earlier form of the weapon, and one with which a great many people had already become accustomed.

As for the black firesand as an ingredient for the weapon, it could potentially be explained as a component used in exothermic welding, as part of the fabrication process for the firearm itself rather than using a finite amount of firesand for what becomes a seemingly infinite number of shots afterward.

We see smaller bows attached to larger ones (Moggle Bow is one, and there are others), and we don't assume that it's intended to serve what would be considered its original purpose.

Perhaps it's a bit of a stretch, but it works for my head canon.

Wish there was a way to hide it. I only put it on when doing something. Hellfire looks nice as does Garuda's Abandon, which I really need to get eventually.

I had a 2nd coil token leftover and bought a quicksilver to glamour over the ironworks gun, looked real cool with the wooden stock and all.

Then I hit 52 and had to stare at a spinning laser turd on the end of my winchester, wtf.

So been looking at this map and thinking about building towards Ala Migho for 4.0 (which is my current theory) and it got me into investigating these other areas we haven't been to and how they may play into it.

The biggest one that sticks out to me is Xelphatol which is supposedly a mountainous region populated with Ixal. Although its likely we won't visit it since its meant to be the home of a certain sect of beastman (like O'ghomoro) but this could be used to expand upon their fall from

Also, trying to find info on Paglth'an, but not really finding much more than "an arid place where Amalj'aa come from"

I fully expect Ala Migho to be our Tavnazia.

We'll get close, but the best we're gonna get is a small outpost somewhere we can see the city from at a distance.

    We ain't never going there.

And I hope not too, Ala Mihgans are generally dicks. I hate pretty much all of them and I'm tired as shit of listening to them whine about their homeland.
"Why'd you do the bad thing?"
    "Because Ala Mihgo!"
    Fuck Ala Mihgo.
