Something occurred to me when doing the Thordan fight for trial roulette:

    Spoiler: show

    Where the fuck are we?

I know the battlefield changes with the different phases but is it just to look cool?

I'd like to think it's some secret mindfuck having to do with the Ascian on the moon in the post-credit CS or something but I doubt it.

Taking into consideration the ending scenes:

    Spoiler: show
    Maybe somewhere around/on the moon?

Think you posted just as I edited the last line into mine.

It might be yea, but I can't really think of how it would make sense.

I can't say I remember much about what the Singularity Reactor is supposed to be, assuming they ever explained it much, all I remember is the Aetherochemical facility was where they did research on Primal control.

I don't think we ever found out exactly why Thordan had to get there beyond the vague implication that there was some missing piece there to allow him to fully ascend to Primal form, which doesn't make all that much sense since the other knights had no trouble doing their little transformations.

If the Triad turns out to just be the exact same thing they were in FFVI (but for Primal summoning instead of magic in general) that's gonna be disappointingly boring.

I think Thordan had to go there because it was just a shitload of aether concentrated into a single place, so like a gigantic crystal. The Warring Triad are confirmed to have been the original three "Eikons" that the Allagan's managed to enslave/trap and their power is used to keep Azys Lla afloat, I think? The Singularity Reactor is supposedly the core of the engine room of the big battleship.

As for where we are during that battle, I assumed it was just something done to look cool. Thordan's power was enough to bend reality and make an illusion of being in outer space for intimidation. Or something.

The real secret is that they're actually a single entity: the Elder Primal named Crusader!

But yeah, it would perhaps be best to set your expectations low on this one. Were this to be the case and what they go with, it feels way too soon (unless we're going to move on from "Allag did it" by 4.X).

Personally, it'd probably be more interesting to simply have them be something akin to a Primal, but having the ability to retain physical form without the need for worship, or perhaps even the need for external sources of environmental aether, etc. Especially if they might not actually be bad entities and it could mindfuck the Scions' goals. The premise is interesting enough I guess. It's more compelling than having some furry having the blood of Allagan royalty and a fairly lame ending to what could have been.

I'd still really like to see some still living Allagans with their sanity and individuality still intact. If we can get some technologically advanced city/cities out of it to explore and marvel at, that'd be neat as well.

It's always going to be "an Allagan did it".

Except for the times when an Ascian did it.

Shocking 4.55 twist: the Ascians are Allagans.

I do kind of feel like we're going to find out that the relationship between Ascians and Primals is closer than it currently seems like. The way their souls work in the Moenbreda(sp?) explanation cutscene is similar, and the Ascian naming scheme (and the whole shadow thing) has an implied duality that hasn't been utilized yet. I've toyed with the idea of there being an ff10 thing going on and the Ascians are the Fayths of the various Primals, or the Ascians are forgotten Primals from past eras that have figured out how to self-summon (they're the memory leaks in the Primal Factory, heh), and I don't really buy into any of it, but I'm expecting some kind of related twist eventually.

Or they could just be Organization XIII in bird masks.

Speaking of which, which quests did the explanations about regular souls and the Ascian souls happen during?
I've been meaning to view the scenes again as I've got some (probably incredibly dumb and off the mark) ideas about a bunch of stuff and it might help to see them again.

I have a question about the story as we get into 3.1.

How can we be sure we are in the 7th Astral Era? Because the Grand Company leaders deemed it to be so (and is further more expanded into the complete quest log)? Is it really that simple? There has always been ages between Umbral & Astral, but only a 5 year gap between 7th Umbral to 7th Astral? I'm still willing to believe that even though the leaders christened the age to be Astral, we are still in an Umbral era.

Aren't the distinctions between Astral and Umbral eras essentially just somewhat arbitrary and wholly subject to whether or not shit is majorly fucked (collapse of the Allagan Empire, War of the Magi, the Calamity (Bahamut Prime)) or not as fucked (when things got better following those periods)?

Indeed. Which begs the question of why we would deem it to be so short a period of post calamity.

I mean, Nidhogg is reborn to full power, the Ascians are still running amok sowing chaos (now with the WoD), the Garleans are building their forces back up & slowly stealing the secrets of Azys La, and the Illuminati are slowly resurrecting Alexander, and the seal on the Warring Triad is starting to loosen. Ton of near Calamity type shit is about to pop off and we are calling this Astral, just seems silly to me.

7th Umbral Era was Dalamud/Baha, bad shit still happens outside of the umbral eras just not necessarily world ending shit (tho world ending shit will obviously continue to happen because video game).

If anything the Ascians have been waiting for the last of the umbral eras to end so they can do their Zodiark thing they've been prepping since the astral/umbral eras started (almost certainly by them).

I figured that the astral umbral eras are the consensus of the general public of Eorzea. Average Joe doesn't know about alot of the threats beyond the looming shadow of Garlemald, asicans are just myths to most and few know or even care about the specifics of dragonsong war outside of Ishguard.

It is that simple, it's implied that not all of Hydaelyn follows the Umbral/Astral timings anyway. It's basically like how Judaism says it's 5776 instead of 2015.

(I don't actually know how the Jewish calendar works, but yeah there's no universally agreed upon calendar in Hydaelyn. It's likely the rest of the world doesn't even follow the Astral/Umbral moon cycles and months-- though that's a little less likely since it's based on something shared by of Hydaelyn [the moon])

Due to the housing boom in Mists, Goblet and Lavender beds. That astral economic growth
