A virus or something is degrading computer

If the specs of my computer needs to be specified let me know and i will edit it in when i can. Basically have a new computer running windows 7 (recently identified as not original.) 8 gigs of ram with a 1 tb hardrive. Not to much on there but a few games and other random apps nothing heavy.

Can't copy/paste because my computer is starting to freeze constantly. (currently using another computer to beg for some answers/solutions.) Also all started after the most recent update of windows 7 identified my copy of windows as not original (Could that be the reason?).

I tried using super anti spyware, ccombo, malwarebytes, avg (free trial), but nothing seems to work. The problem i am having is that my computer is running a service program that is using over 1.5 million kb while running and cpu usage is jumping around 60% up to 93% which is the highest i seen. It did not start off this way, my computer started slowing down over time, without anything obvious and just thought i needed to clean it. So did basic maintenance. Than i got worried when my internet connection stopped working. While my xbox had a signal my computer did not and i even directly linked it to the modem. I started to worry i had somehow gotten a worm that was overloading my computer. Which was weird because i am a bit paranoid about shady sites and or emails. Nothing came up (Accept a virus called fat-obfuscate that avg detected) but still not fixed. Did a system recovery which seems to have helped a little but my computer is now going through the same process of slowing down and internet has been disabled. Currently boots up smoothly only to start crashing when all the programs start uploading.

Edit: I have let my 12 year old step-brother use it from time to time but he should know not to download anything just browse. Have to wait a few days to ask him what he did.

I don't know. It only shows up as service program, when i go to task manager and show all processes from user nothing else. I went to the origin of file and it was a bunch of .dll files. I could not make heads or tales from it.

Instead of beating yourself up over what you did wrong, just reload with a fresh copy of Windows. Especially if you aren't sure whats going on.

If it works and solves your problem, great, you had a virus or something was wrong with your Windows installation. If not, you know you are having a hardware problem.

Have you tried "Spybot Search and Destroy"?, thats the one I use.

Also I'm pretty sure the 12 year old got the virus on there.
You said "he should know" but most people without the knowledge will get viruses.
Both my mother and sister got the "KoobFace" virus from pop ups in Facebook.

I use AVG and Comodo Firewall theyre decent at finding/keeping stuff off PCs.
I can't even use keygens to crack certain software becuase it wont let me use it unless disabled.

edit: If all else fails you may have to reformat, just make sure you have drivers for everything on you PC. Like CD/DVD drives etc. Try to salvage what you can pics, vids, etc.

From my experience, younger kids (especially boys) are the worst with infecting computers. They will check all their social network shit, and play tons of games on crapware sites, probably using IE, and its the ads that load that compromise you, not the downloading he does. Use Firefox + NoScript + Adblock and get IE off your Startbar and off the desktop if you are going to have non tech savvy people using your machine. I've found you generally don't need to uninstall IE, you just need to 'hide' it. Lazy kids are lazy and generally won't go diging in the program window to find their desired browser.

With that said, just reformat and reinstall if the situation is that bad. Make sure you have something to reinstall from (either a backup disk made long ago, or an actual installation CD that you bought or made). Also make sure to download all the drivers you need now from another machine before you wipe yours (Graphics, Sound, Network Cards, etc.) I generally do not like reinstalling from a recovery partition because I have seen infections that either corrupt or infect those. Also, who likes losing HDD/SSD space?

yea, its true i should have known to take necessary cleaning measures after he used it, but count that as me being lazy.

I will use the programs that were recommended because i have my computer just the way i like it. Do not want to reformat and or install everything all over again. But if it must be done i have a day off tomorrow

the longer the virus is on your computer the more corruption it will do
if youve had it running this long without being able to remove it its probably going to be a dead stick
avg cant catch shit, get nod32 or something strong (not norton or mcafee) and let that run on it

Just reinstall, that's the fastest and easiest thing to do.

Next time set up a linux virtual machine to let your brother use (and for you to watch porn with) vmware player is trivial to setup and use.

Also, dont be logged in as an administrator. Almost all viruses you can get from just browsing require you to be logged into an account with administrator rights.

Hm. I've seen something like this before. It was an infected BIOS. No amount of wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows will fix that. You have to flash the BIOS. If that's what this is, anyway.

Might try running Hitman Pro. I've seen it pick up a lot of things nothing else has.

As far as active Antivirus programs go, get Microsoft Security Essentials. It's really the best free AV out there.

You reformat, and you make whoever screwed up the machine sit there with you while you do it. That fixes the current problems AND helps prevent future ones. I force friends and family to sit there and suffer with me when I fix their shit. That policy alone has reduced the crap I have to do by over 75%.

I have a lot to try and hopefully i do not need to flash the BIOS. Never did that before. Gonna spend an entire day on the computer and get a handle on the problem before it becomes irreparable.

Next time gonna have the rugrat glue to the seat next to me if anything like this happens again. Locking my computer.

I will make sure to post an update to let you guys know how everything went. Gonna get me a few Red Bulls and some spicy Cheeto's to start it off.

Well i was able to fix everything thanks to all your suggestions. I had a shit load of malware, few trojans, one root virus, spyware among other things. Found out little my little brother has discovered the site "XNXX" which i have thus blocked among other sites. No longer will he be on any computer unsupervised or his standards for women will be that of these porn videos.

Each program was able to find something the others have missed (which is worrisome in a way). My computer is running even a little faster than before which tells me the problem was long lasting and i failed to notice because it happened in increments. Still going to take some precaution and continue to scan my computer constantly. All passwords have been changed as well as some user names for sensitive sites.

Thanks guys, i found myself insanely lucky i did not have to reformat. With my luck though there are some deeply imbedded viruses that are just waiting to cause more havoc.

Edit: oh and Fat-Obfuscate was one that kept coming back even though AVG said it cleaned it. Bought NOD32 which seems to have dealt with it though.

This is the best advice you could ever get. Having a linux or mac OS vitalized for others to use makes life easier. You're boy can watch all the nasty porn in the world, on the most evil sites and you won't have to worry about anything. And to make things better, it doesn't cost you a thing.

Alright, ran Hitman pro and it seems to have caught Funmoods virus and 10 other suspicious .dll files among 30 tracers/cookies. Good call. Now to figure out the linux.

grab ubuntu or xubuntu. they're really, really, REALLY easy to use. download vmware player, after install click on "create a new virtual machine" and point it to the iso for linux that you downloaded. It'll detect the OS and do everything else for you. the base OS install will include firefox.
